agreed, however the lack of compatability is a bit of a turn off. I'll stick with XP for now...

Meh I've never realy used any windows programs that don't have a Linux replacement. But for all you gamers out there, this is a problem...

I myself have only played 2 games besides SGW in my life :P

That would leave me 12MB RAM to spare :P But yeah when I get 2GB RAM I *might* consider dual-booting with Vista... but only to see how superior KDE 4 will be by comparison :D

XP uses around 300 i think, but i managed to cut it down to 200 by disabling most background programs i dont need.

How do I disable useless background programs? Is there a website that explains what each program does and maybe give me suggestions of which ones are useless?

if you have XP pro (dunno bout home) right click on the 'my computer' icon and click on the 'manage' option

this will take you to the computer management console, from there expand the 'services & applications' tree and click on the 'services' branch.

This will then in the next window pane show you all the services installed on your PC and how, when they run. You can disable the services or put them onto manual or automatic as run options.

*****BE VERY CAREFUL, YOU CAN DISABLE SERVICES YOU ACTUALLY NEED THIS WAY TO THE POINT OF NEEDING TO REINSTALL XP*****

Well I have vista, and I gotta say, you guys are overdoing it on the RAM -it idles high, but in my experience it doesn't get used by programs as easily, by that I mean, they'll run fine, but you want see much rise in th e amount of RAM being used. Also, to the people who claim vista is a copy of OS X, it really doesn't matter if it is or not, the main thing that they are copying is wanting to make their product look nice, not actually many specific ideas, and you know what, they succeeded- their product looks great, hangs together well and in my opinion is a huge leep from any other OS.

My friend has Vista, it's actually quite fast and efficient. Even my non English speaking friends found it easy to use.
