What is Ascended Resurrection?

I see where it tracks how many Ascended Resurrections you have saved... but what is it and how do you get it?

how many times you have recovered from being de-ascended or,
your amount of ascensions (i know it says 0, hence why i lean towards the first option)

I can see that... but it says "Saved" so it looks like something you can build up purposely.

I think it's a remainder from when descension was only an idea. Possibly the first concept of descension involved your entire ascended account being destroyed/deleted or somesuch, and having a couple resurrections saved might be the only way to keep you from having to start over. However, descension has since more or less been reduced to forced vacation, and ascended life reserves were introduced, making the resurrections somewhat pointless.

I can't guarantee that's it, but it seems the most logical explanation.
