Loaning uu and effects... Some questions

hiho fellow players,

getting an 2 mill UU loan back a few days ago got me to thinking again. If you are not considered reading the story simple jump to the ------------- line

I would consider myself a generous person atleast where gam goods are concerned. If friends or allies need help the ammount of help depend more on what ammount is asked for and can be made avaibal from me.

I never put any conditions on the UU or the naq except of getting them back as soon as the person doesnot need them anymore.

What i dont understand is the fact that i usually (aka 90%+ of the cases) are the one paying for the deserters.

Thats something that would never happen to me if i loaned uu from somewhere for free. The last i would do is to make sure that the person helping me wouldnot have fewer uu that he/she startet it....

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Enough story here are some questions:

-How do you pay back a freely given loan?
- Would you abuse the trust put in you?
- Would you expect if loaning uu out to get the deserters?
- Is expecting deserters to be covered to much?

IF i loan uu/ naq out i usually do it with the sentence its up to you and your conscience how to repay me.

Do people simple have such a different view on such matters or where are i am wrong?

Only honest answers please.:-)

I haven't had uu loaned to me in awhile, and you don't have the same questions that arise from turn/naq loans, however, back when I did used to get uu loaned to me, this is how I repaid:

set the trade back for the same as what was given. ie:

say it was a 1 mill uu trade, there were deserters when I received the 1 mill uu, aye? so when I set the trade back, I don't set it for 1 mill - deserters, I set it for 1 mill again. This way the deserters are halved between the lender and the receiver.

However, it's because of deserters that I don't lend or borrow uu *shrugs* so my answer may not be worth much.

If i got 1mill uu i would set the broker back to 1010102 UU, just to cover deserters... Because if if got them for free loan, why let the loaner loose even 1%?

If it was a freely given loan - I would pay back the deserters....and if I had the loan for more than a week or so then I would probably pay for the original person's lifers too when they retrain them.

Ingame resources are neither here nor there. Something I truly understand since coming back to the game - its the person on the other computer that matters, not the digits on the screen.

I would give back the uu + extra to cover the deserters, then maybe a little extra naq/uu as a thanks for helping me out.

Maybe I'm just too generous :P

1: Depends on the spirit in which it is given. If it is given to help me get started and I end up having a 74mil army size after a time, I'll repay all loans given.
Generally I hold myself indebted to the loaner in question. If someone loans me 100k UU, I'll consider that person worthy of repayment worth 200k UU. >_> It's just that I seem to have a little trust issue of late. :? Not to mention lack of an account.

2: Hm, again. I seem to have a little trust issue, guaranteeing that little people would actually loan me UU. ;) However, I would of course attempt to repay the debt at any moment of my being able to do so. I hate to be indebted to people. >_> remind me to write that down
I can be very Eskery though >_> so forgive me if nature comes kicking in.
Bah, it's remarks like this that make me... bad.

3: Ah yes... deserters. Filthy little buggers. :x I have no love for cowards and people who drop out of the Ha'tak at the closest planetary dunghole to get all cracked up on grass and other exoticisms. Bah.
Nah, I don't expect people to return them. I take the loss... but if I would loan someone UU, I'd loan them 1010102 UU to compensate them, like Bazsy. I just wouldn't expect them to return all that. ;)

4: Yup. Way too much to expect. >_> Especially your dealing partner is someone who you just chose to help out for a little bit. ;)
Nah... it's really different per person who repays what and when. :)

There. As honest as I could be. >_>

-How do you pay back a freely given loan?
i'd cover for the deserters and probably throw in a few extra depending on the amount and my current situation.

- Would you abuse the trust put in you?
naa, id just be massed if i did

- Would you expect if loaning uu out to get the deserters?
no, but its always nice if it happens

- Is expecting deserters to be covered to much?
yea, but i suppose it depends on who you're loaning to

but some of us do, and it would be worth it.

And i dont take loans from people, in the risk i somehow lose it, or something screws up, or i fail to be online to give it back to them withing 10seconds of the time i said i would have them returned.

I guess i got this view fro never wanting to rip off my comrades and the fact i hate any form of loan in real life and it carrys over to here.

If I loaned out UU a lot, things might change but for now:

Generally if I'm lending UU, I'm not expecting any interest or any bonus resources back. So the loss in deserters just gets added into my losses for not having access to my own troops for that long. If I give someoone a million UU, the Naq loss from the week they are gone really outshines the 10k UU that go missing.

Returning or offering to return the deserters should be standard, but I usually consider it a bonus if people do it. It's like a thank you present.

That said, I usually try to help with Naq and turns. I'd rather let people raid to get their UU themselves and then get me the turns back. No deserters and it shows me they aren't just asking for loans to make life easy on themselves.

It would make my week if esker came back and gave the units back, but alas its not gonna happen
We heard enough from him before tho...
anyway i have lent out uu/naq before its usually known that its a loan and not been given.
But if i give i make sure they know its a gift
I also borrow naq from friends every know and again, i give back as soon as my income regenerates.

I would be glad to offer my opinion to this topic...

- How do you pay back a freely given loan?
Usually in smaller installments as and when I get them. I try to get the full debt repaid as soon as possible.

- Would you abuse the trust put in you?
No. I can however think of certain scenarios whereby the return of those UU may be delayed somewhat, such as if I got massed or went to war.

- Would you expect if loaning uu out to get the deserters?
It would be nice, but as its only 1% of the units I wouldnt really mind if I didn't.

- Is expecting deserters to be covered to much?
Not really, it should be covered in the terms of the loan before the loan is granted.

There ya go.
