Try to find "The Brotherhoods". It is a true story about two senior NYPD Police detectives who became hit men for the Mob, and how they were eventually brought down by a few determined, good cops who investigated them for years. Excellent read, with a surprising twist at the end.

After you're done with Poe, if you liked him, I'd take up **Filtered**.
In many ways they can be quite simmilar, with the edge (imho) to **Filtered**.
(Mostly do to the simple fact that **Filtered** has a lot more room to work with)
On the pulp (I.e. non-classic) side;
I'd try some classic Battletech, maybe Tad William's new Shadowmarch, or perhaps The Blue Max.
In historical fiction:
I'd recommend getting ahold of 'The Arms of Krupp', or 'Descision over Swienfurt' in addition to those already mentioned.
