The AWARDS

yes I know i said it was my last post  but I think this must be said.

The awards are meant to be a honour, if you get nominated it should be a honour.

You should sit back & wait for all the nice things said about you.

The awards are meant tp honour players efforts in the game & this is done by having differant sections to highlight these certain efforts.

some have said these awards are just a popularity contest, some with sarcasm intended.

This is the point, to a certain degree, yes, but to manipulate this is wrong no matter how you look at this.Just because a person is popular does not mean they deserve a award in these awards or i should say certain sections.

Let me put it this way. so everyone understands what can happen if this happens.

hyperthetically

Mr Head of the DarkBrotherhood Alliance.

asks all his alliance members /officers to vote for him, they ask their offficers & so on so on & buddies of everyone they can think of then vote for MR HEAD.

some of these people think, Ah i can help more, I will make a few accounts to add a few more votes.

These officers/buddies how much do they know about what has happened in the 1 year 2 months since the last awards. Most officers don't know what is going on, as you often see people say why have i been attacked & that is the ones who come on the Forums.

I have often been threaten with players commanders who they think are major players, but are very minor ( & i am not belittling anybody)

If you are Honest with yourselves you will have to agree with this.

so how are these people able to make a valid vote in these cats about players they don't know of or what they have done in the past year.

Once you open Pandora's Box you can not control what happens.

some people had a go at me for reporting what i came across, most have apoligised now, once they found the truth out, & I do appreciate & respect thier integrity.

But the reason I am really making this post is,
many are Blaming the MODS for this. I reported it they acted.

As you can see, once this was done the whole awards were tarnished. They are not to Blame in anyway as far as i can see.

I hope this helps people understand what has happened.

Exellent post STI, I agree 90%

I'll be short as we've discussed this in PM, but heres what I'll say

The mods did act in an attempt to fix things, however it was the manner in which they did it that breeds the discontent.

Many people automaticlly accuse them of bias, that itself is bias, as well as BS.

The main problem was twofold, the mods were secreteve about it, and they also acted to supress discussion. That makes the problem grow worse.

Voting from people that do not know what they are voting for will happen no matter what. That is unavoidable, and must be accepted if there is any voting.

The other issue here is some of the more senior players thinking that the smaller players, not knowing that much, dont deserve a vote. That is also a foolish stance, as Joe N00b that just started playing and thinks its funny to attack page one people yet wonders why their weapons all disaper is just as elligable to vote as a person who holds rank1 for 10 years straight.
Thanks Jeff.

S T I made a great post here. I would hate to see this turning into spam, flaming and mod bashing again. So please keep it civil.

Jeff has hit the nail on the head. If a Noob smashed by a page one player votes for someone else as top player...Can't blame him.

I myself used to either help or destroy those that attacked me :) Sometimes I help them and only ask that they themselves help someone in turn.

Othertimes...if they have attitude......They never go anywhere with that account again.

No one player should have his vote count for more then anyother. The awards aren't about who has more time in... It allows the bulk population to let other players know what they think about them. The good and the bad.

BTW I still wanna vote :D

BTW I will return in a few weeks :):)

Sometimes some of the mods will try to step on you, or even mod your section. My advice is to fill a sock with marbles and hit them repeatedly until they stop. - Pianomutt2000.

Good post S T I and for the most part I completely agree.

We cannot take it to seriously though. Like Geisha said... it's only a game.

I'am honored, I got nominated in two categories. And all players should have the right to vote, active forumers or not.

Admin and the Mod team should consider the idea to have the forums and the game itself connected / linked. So each registered main account has a forum account. That way everyone could just vote - and we wouldn't have this problem... At least I think it's possible.

And Bill, coming back?

KJ

Who gets to decide when someone has been active enough on the forums to vote. The fact is the awards are voted on by ALL THE PLAYERS. Otherwise it would be just the forum awards, I know there are forum awards too, but the awards cover all the game. And every player has the right to vote in these awards for whoever they want AND FOR WHATEVER REASON THEY WANT TO. Just because you arent active on this forum does not mean you dont know whats going on INGAME, WHERE SOME OF THE AWARDS ARE BASED ON. Your point about new forum users who are active inagme can only apply to the awards for forum based catagories, ie Spammer, poster of the year. It is obviously cheating if someone uses a forum multi to effect the votes. But in your previous thread, all of the users listed are real players and not multis, and their votes count just as much as yours do, whether they match your choice or not.

Mattwell I see your point everyone playing getting a vote...

but you have to see that everyone who plays who doesnt visit the forum frequently will miss out on a lot of information...

and (forgive me for doing this) if this were real life you wouldn't just vote for someone to be prime minister or president if you didnt know anything about that person only than hearing there name as someone who masses people... or someone with 120million armysize...

Informed voters make up the majority of voters, but yes in real life there are those who vote based on name or who vote party lines. And some people voting for non-CoP members are doing exactly that, voting party lines. How many people last US election went in and voted all Democrat based on the fact they didn't like Republicans. In fact there was eevn a movie with Eddie Murphy called The Distinguished Gentlemen where he became a Congressmen by changing his name to the previous Congressmans name who had died. Voting for a name or along affiliation lines isn't new and its definatly not rare.

Un-informed voters vote all the time. It can not be helped... and it is no ones place to say how informed someone else has to be before they are allowed to vote. Also... just because some one has not posted before it does not mean that they are not up to date on things. You can lurk on these forums and read tons with out ever logging in. Maybe these people are the wise ones as they held their tongues until they had something to say... if only more people would do that.

You know if the head of an alliance sent out a msg that reminded people to vote or to brag about being nominated and then people reacted in a way that got him more votes... why should these not count? Because you dont think they are informed enough? Because they have not been playing? Pfft! They should count because they are players, thats all that is needed.

I fully agree the forum multies should not have their votes count. And those forum multies that did vote more then one should have them removed... but not the others.

I found the reaction to this whole thing get out of control. The removal of non-forum multie votes was, in my book a mistake. However the worst thing to happen, at least in my book was when it was posted...

IPs will be traced to main forum/game accounts and the person penalised.

This was posted by an admin, and while its his forum to post on and all, it has always been understood that forum mods and admins do not have the "in game" power to look up IP's or to penalise accounts. Huh, well maybe this has changed.

As for what I advise folks on this whole award thing... stop sending me PM's and MSN msg to get me to vote for you. I have gotten these from all sorts of players. Myself... I am not voting, its silly and its just a big ego stroke for those that are nominated.

I would like to say I am not accusing STI of any misconduct. Nor am I saying he was wrong to report it what he felt was someone abusing the system.. I AM saying that all those who were reported by him are real players. And their votes should count once they were proven not to be multis. And while it says the board that accounts created specifically to vote will be dekleted and punished ingame, Im sure the original intent of that was to prevent multis being made to vote. As all authentic players should be allowed to vote. Thats what this discussion has been about, who is allowed to vote.I and others believe that all players, active on the forum or not are allowed to vote as it is the SGW awards, not SGW Forums Awards and the pther side thinks that those who don't frequent the forums shouldnt vote. and it has been one of the most civilized on this forum for a while. I hope it stays that way, and both sides continue a great debate.
