Extortion - (demand goods for not massing) - right or wrong?

However, if 'extortion' is such a huge problem then no one will complain if game admins use the removal of in game trading from the game as a test to see how it fights 'extortion'.

Without the ability to transfer resources directly between accounts, the only option to get resources is to attack people and via the ingame markets. This would also get rid of all the $ for resources that has, in my mind totally weakened that game and caused some major issues previously.

If that were an option, I'd be right there with you. I've cursed the give option more than once because it lies at the root of many problems in this game. Like multies, quick ascensions and many other things that cannot be fixed because the give option provides a way around them. But like Tok'ra says, people have paid for it and removing it will cause trouble the likes of which SGW has never seen before.

Personaly, I thknk a second non-reset server should be started.

One that allows NO resource transfer at all, but is otherwise mosttly identical to main.

Even if admin cant really stop this from happening as you are explaining it RJ like this whole thread is nonsense because nothing can be done about it anyway....

We still need something to keep this under control extortion might be something wich isnt so bad but it will drive newer players away and settled players sell up....

Some people need to get off their statue and play this game for a change besides just taking free resources instead of doing something yourself
Extortion is wrong it shouldnt be a thing anyone should consider if you wanna mass someone then do that even if they wanna pay you to not make you mass them.

Asking for resources is imo just pathetic and admin should do something about it i think Robe made a good post about wich punishments should follow on such actions.

Also i think the same about forum admins they shouldnt be playing this game as they can alter everything anyones writes and can delete it when they dont like it .......

Extortion isnt some kind of gameplay added by admin i just hope the people who do it will stop it and just go on with this game even though the guy who was asked to pay is massed they learn much more from a mass then paying someone resources ......

I did not mean to imply that my solution of removing ingame trading would fully eliminate all of any 'negative aspect of the game', covers extortion and mutlies. At present we have not had any real or practical ideas to combat these issues other than to remove aspects of the game that will totally remake our current game. The point of this post is how much would we like to get rid of 'extortion'? Is it to the point that we would radically change the game that we love to play? For me I would say give it a go obviously, remove ingame trading for a time to see if it helps. My theory is that though 'extortion' and multies will be effected by this, most players would complain that they wanted the ingame trading returned. "You can't have something for nothing" as the old cliche goes.

Extortion has become a big problem in the game and can be better controlled.

The severity of the incident relates directly to the position of power or trust that the extortionist holds within the game.

Preventing Serious Incidents
Players who attempt to extort resources via ingame messages or posts on SGW Forums, who hold a position of authority within the game, such as a Forum Admin or Forum Mod, should be removed from their position of trust, pending an open investigation.

To prevent this happening again, No Player should be appointed to, or be allowed to remain as a Forum Admin because this gives them too much influence over the game as a whole.

There is currently one Forum Admin (Agapooka aka Reality) who no longer plays (sold his account) who can continue on in this role until another non player can be appointed to assist.

Preventing other incidents
Players who attempt to extort resources via in game messages or posts on SGW Forums should be punished with Time Out.

First time Offenders
Alliance leaders who have been playing for more than 6 months should be ostracized for one month.

Players that extort resources should be ostracized for one week.

Second time Offenders
Should be ostracized for 3 months.

Third time Offenders
Banned from the game altogether.


Many players have become accustomed to extortion, just like the public have become desensitized to violence in the media. That does not make extortion acceptable game practice.

Power without Glory is nothing to be valued.
The values of the leaders dictate the culture of the organisation.

MY thoughts on the topic...

Extortion should stay...
My reasons would be the following:

- It is a mmoRPG...and even extortion is a part of it...
- secondly...what I like in SGW is this complexety of relations...I always said SGW is like some soap opera...when you hit someone there will be crying...backstabbing...bunch of ppl you dont know will come and threaten you etc...

- Ppl say that if we let this continue there will be bigger guys picking on the smaller ones...
Well ladys and gentelmen that already exists...so it would be the same as it is now...and you also need to take into acount...that when someone who plays the role of a "shining knight on a white horse" will come by the one who previously used extortion may get in truble...that is the complexety of SGW and I like it...

When smaller ppl will use extortion...they will normally continue on doing it, untill one of the bigger guys comes by and decides to interven..
But if one of the most influential players playing this game use such a thing... there will be no one to stop him ONLY IT MAY TRIGGER WHAT WAS TRIGGERED A GOOD MONTH AGO...this war is not only about this and that...it is not only about power...it is about THIS COMPLEX RELATIONSHIPS INSIDE OF SGW...

As we can see some are in it for:
- "revenge"
- some are in it for "justice"
- some are in it because they wana prove themselves
- etc etc so many different reasons in general...

So if ETLs name was presented here I ll use him (no offence...also dont have nth against this you doing it except I dont aprove it and I admit if you would be a guy without COP to back your mouth I would crush you because of it)
So where was I...oh yeah lets use ETL....well in this case hey...I mean what can you do...
The guy has a prity nice acount...and even if that doesnt bother you...he has the whole omega to back him up ...not speaking the entire COP...ppl that are his mates...and ppl that want to "show themselves to him by helping him (you know you help me I help you thing) "

But in this case if COP happens to lose he may get on trial for all the things he has done...as on the other hand we can take Robe for example since she is obviously not very likeable...so both of them are in some serious truble if they lose this war...(also one of the reasons none of them will ever back down probably... )

Anyways...PERHAPS THIS SENTENCE FOR THE GRAND FINALE:

Jason, Forum...who will pay all the damage or some kind of indemnity to the winner of this WAR if we cannot use extortion

Lets keep the game twisted...etc...it is a game...I can threaten you in Risk right?...but I cannot threaten you in SGW ? I say why not...it is fun...the complexety is fun...and the ones doing it may be gaining but once there is a trial for them because of USING EXTORTION they are prity much GONERS...

Extortion is a serious problem if allowed to fester where the strong stay strong and prevent anyone else from growing to rival them. If this occurs, this game would practically be over as noone would be able to touch the strongest people in the game. It might already be too late for ascension, but the main server still has a chance at staying competitive, which is one of the reasons why many of us are fighting this war.

I don't know what else could be done about extortion. Bringing back the rank modulator would just mean that in a war people could hide in the low ranks with one big stat and would be safe. I don't know about the other options. The minefield seems interesting and as I haven't played quantum in a while I'm unsure about the third option. I don't know what runaway would entail either.

There are terms, conditions, agreements and forfeits in real wars so surely the same must apply in a war game. The key task is to remember that it is afterall a game, and therefore people should make every effort to 'play by the rules' so to speak, or in otherwords, to be reasonable with what they demand based on what people have

But trying to get real cash out of someone crosses the line in a HUGE way.

Ingame recourses can be sold for $$ so their isnt rly a difference
