personally i'd say the only 5 real updates the planets ever needed were as follows:
1) not being able to send out ms immediately after stealing a planet
2) not being able to transfer a planet you just stole to a friend
3) fleets attacking a planet get destroyed, not just damaged
4) fleets can't get sold
5) phase shifting was a good idea, if it wasn't for this USS thing that lets you keep them forever
beacons might have been a good idea but (nut sure about this) if you ascend enemy beacons on your planets get destroyed. seeing that you don't ascend everyday it should have it's benefits.
I also think that fleets should get handled completely like other ms items. if you farm or raid they dont' get damaged
If it were possible to sell them then maybe only make you get 40% of the cost back or even less.
with these updates if you had a fleet ten times weaker than the def then you'd take forever to knock it down. but with the current system you pay literally nothing to steal a planet in relation to the defence costs

I have a suggestion that would make this point moot. Your MS can steal one planet a day so let's make it one planet ATTACK per day. Either you steal the planet or you don't. There is no massing of planets. I mean if someone can use 3000 turns to steal a planet, why can't I use 3000 turns to reclaim all of my planets that were stolen that very day? It only makes sense.
Also size should make a difference. It should be more difficult to steal a Monsterous planet than a tiny planet.

I suggested something like this a long time ago but people didn't want to for some odd reasons. that's why i didn't include this anymore because i figured it was pointless to suggest it again.
imho planet size should also increase firepower of each planetary defence. so instead of 3 mil per def it becomes 3 mil + 300k per size upgrade
