You'd think a MS fleet would include more than fighters, bombers, troop ships would also be included, because even tho fourm calls them fleets they're really fighter squadrons (why else are they launched from hangers ?)
Currently, you buy fleets just as you take a planet, then sell them and bank.
If you leave them out, they get (along with your MS) massed.
What I propose is thus:
A strong MS with no fleets faces a weaker MS WITH fleets, the fleets instead of being destroyed very fast do dammage to the stronger MS, thus making keeping fleets trained (and massable) ESSENTEL to MS combat.
Fleets able to dammage a MS

I like the idea but I don't understand your statement here? How does this make having fleets essental? Fleets can be bought and sold where weapons and shields can't. Making fleets permanant and unsellable would be better in my eyes.

Perhaps fleets should be divided up into 2 classes; 1 class for ground support/planet theft, and another class for space combat?

And perhaps to help limit overwhelming strong ms's, there could only be a certain preportion of fleets to battery's, ie whenever you purchase a hanger, it not raises its cost, but also that of offensive volley's capacity
this would somewhat divide ships into battleships and carriers, which i dont like

I like, and yet don't. Perhaps planet theft/MS combat and ground support?
Or Planets/MS and Planets/Ground (Planet combat would combine fleet strength), but both could be damaged by opposing MS.

If you have accidently attacked with all your fleets you would know that this is in effect.
I have no idea when it started. Forum does not seem to wish to post in Game Update what he sees as minor changes....
I did attack with 22k fleets about 12B and was surprised when I saw the damage done to Reks (IIRC) MS with overflow to the attack of 12B.
Since I had only 19 weapons....
It was the Fleets that did the damage, IIRC (if I remember correctly) they did not suffer damage but some where lost even though his Attack did not make it thru the shields.
So it does work but could get very expensive with fleet losses.
Still, I leave my fleets at home when they are not on a Planet Conquering Mission.
