Ode of Remembrance

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
intelligence is a tool
insanities a way to use it

For those who shed their blood with me today
will always be my brother."

Short, sweet, but it speaks volumes.

Congrads. You just penned the best piece I've read in a while.

I'm a poet myself, I know ya.

I bet you felt really good, almost high when those words came into your head. Its the moment you know in your heart you wrote something amazing.

Gold Demon Weaver posted yesterday on Anzac Day, a hallowed day of remembrance for the Australian, New Zealand, and Turkish people. GDW was reposting the oath as a tribute to those who fell. This is from a poem written by Laurence Binyon in 1914. That's the 4th stanza and is engraved on War Memorials all across the world. It is usually spoken with head bowed, after the lone bugler plays "The Last Post"

Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side now here in this country of ours... you, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.
—Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, 1934
