What a truly odd thread. 311, I have no idea if this is all some odd prank on your part or if you are being serious. But if you are sincere, then I'd like to say thanks for setting a positive (If somewhat preachy) example that will hopefully help to bring some civility back to the community.
I've never understood when people take this game so seriously but I know that many of us do. The one thing I think we should all take more seriously is the fact that there is another human being sitting at a computer and reading our words, being affected by our actions, and possibly being hurt by the insults that are everywhere on this board. It's very easy to forget that when we talk to each other. It's easy to lose sense of the community and to focus on the game soley.
And yes, this is a role playing game. But really, how far can that excuse take you? How much is it acceptable to run someone down in the name of role playing? Sure, some of us (Myself included) do like the role playing aspect of the game and these boards. But I find it telling that so many of the people who are first to yell "It's just a role playing game, don't take it so seriously!" are also usually among the first to resort to personal insults.
There are people in this game who I greatly dislike ingame. There are people who I will consider ingame enemies till the day one of us ceases playing. But that doesn't give me the right to badmouth them in personal ways, and it doesn't give me the right to treat them like garbage. I think many of us, far too many of us, have fogotten that we're talking with fellow humans who can be hurt by our words. Should what someone living in another part of the world, who we'll never meet, says really cause hurt? No. But we're human and our feelings do get hurt by the harshness of others, rather they should or not.
So yeah, if you're sincere in this, then I commend you for your efforts and I do hope that these boards can become more of a community again.
