Its simple really, make it so one alliance puts war on another and with that they both do 2x damage to eachother with 2x losses, PPT, purgatory and NOX have no effecst from someone in either alliance, no1 from outside the alliances can atk either one and viceversa. PPL cannot leave the alliance, outsiders cannot send the alliance recources and vice versa, people within the alliance can still send eachother stuff.
What would this do? No where to run nowhere to hide.. no ppt no protection no nothing.. it all ends when you press the lovely disband button.
Dont need a complex suggestion to find a winner in wars.

1 alliance declares war on their allies. 24/7 PPT for 2 entire alliances
That could be abused like that but there are probably ways to prevent it, like side ffects like no attacking any1 else outside no trading with outsiders etc. If someone wnated to leave an alliance one would have to disband for it to happen, not so good for them.
More things could be added, lets say, losers lose 5% of their army.

dont want to hijack your thread but whats so complicated about:
A declares war on B (with set terms for the losing party [income loss/up for 1 week, alliance disbanding or whatever] and a set time [like 1 week]), B accepts the challenge.
then the war stats start counting (numbers are jsut a suggestion):
every K unit killed or raided from opposite site counts 1000 war point
every bil naq taken from opposite counts 100 war point
every weapon hit point destroyed (including sabbotage actions) counts like 0.1 points.
every MS weapon destroyed counts 1 point
after the set time the allaince who got more points in total is declared winner.
aint that hard
dont think limiting trades or outside activity will be a sucess (maybe ppting)

Erm because that can so easily be abused by selling stuff beforehand plus the amuotn of coding admin would need to do there can be not "set" terms they would have to go thru with them after the war which can be answeered witha simple no.
This will decide a winner, because they cant do ANYTHING apart from fight, and when they dont wnat to, they lose.

no matter how much effort it takes, this is a war game and i dont see a reason why a game essential part like alliance wars shouldnt have more coding then trading or everything else.
also such an update (esp if it has consequences losing a war) should be discussed with players before implementing to find most of the obvious loopholes and possible exploits -as admin mentioned today, the community is just too clever finding these.

Isn't that what this thread is for, Ston? To discuss the idea, describe possible loopholes, and maybe think of a way to fix them?
As for it deserving more code, I agree. Maybe it's an idea to put the whole diplomatics deal in code... alliances ease trade among each other, wars halt all trades to those alliances, add a possibility of 'blockading' an enemy alliance from outside trades, but losing use of your MS's if you blockade them (as well as needing a set amount of MS power relative to the alliance you are blockading)...
I like the idea of counting down from a certain amount. To make it more balanced (as in fair) though, you should have a way of converting the value of Alliance Power into the starting 'Count' for alliance A, and similar for B.
For example, using current stats:
KGB declares war on The Illuminati (hypo)
KGB has 2,912,904,114,028 total power.
TI has 1,831,308,410,859 total power.
Converting to starting amount of 'score':
KGB has 2192 points to start with.
TI has 1831.
Heh, won't work, will it? One would simply train a MASSIVE A/c before actually declaring war and get loads of power to start.
*sigh*

yeah it is Jadzia, but most updates are being released and afterwards we discuss about it and admin has to fix the problems the smar t guys are causing... i would like to have the update summary before its build in to give some ideas abotu exploiting.
anyway, to add a bit more complexity...a thought i just had:
how about alliance glory (points) earned by victories, that can be converted by alliance leader at any time into a temp alliance stat bonus (like 1% income boost, 5% on att/def/cover/ac, etc. for the whole alliance for 1 week).
of course ppl will try to exploit these by forming alliances and having faked wars to gather allaince glory pionts, so someone need to come up with an idea to prevent that. it could be done via total war points, where a certain random limit has to be reached before they are given away (other idea above) but then small allainces would have problems.
