So, today I get a letter in the mail from my ISP. MGM caught me downloading SG Atlantis and SG1 on bit torrents. I am so screwed, they want me to delete the stuff and then they say I will be fine. But still, I am so screwed.

That's why I edit posts here when pple link to sites that contain torrents... not becasue of the threat of being caught, but because it is not within the boundaries of the law.
I hope things work out for you. Just delete the files and they say you will be fine. Problem solved.

That dosnt help if they report it to the MPAA which just borrows lawyers from the RIAA.

I don't really know about the legal side. I believe that it may be in teh realm of possibility to argue that if a site allows linking to torrent sites they, in some way, feel the behaviour is acceptable....not a risk I am willing to take or allow for the possibility of.

How long ago did you dl them? In december I dl'd two, but the rest I got from itunes so maybe they won't care. How the heck will they know if you deleted the eps or not?

With both XP & Vista its possible once they have your ISP complying with them and providing them with your IP number that they could liase with MS for access to your HDD to see if you have indeed deleted them.
And yes that is possible on both Vista & XP before anyone accuses me of spreading fear. Of course its also just possible that they could have their own lil team of 'hackers' that would take a lil peek to see if you have deleted them or not.
The trick is to get an ISP that wont comply without a court order & even then a specific court order at that and not just a fishing expedition order to examine files (on the isp end) like the mpaa & riaa use

Its possible, but there is no evidence that Microsoft actually allows or does that, even if they state it in the contract thing.
I'd say that they'd (RIAA, MPAA) probably just come to your door one day and ask ( with a court order) to view your HDD, or they'd just confinscate it.

Hehe, I am always prepared, one quick swipe of this (wadda call it? I use it for destroy confidential recordings at work real quick) thingee and my HDD is no more. Not to mention, my apartment has a intercom system, so I know who is at the door. And you might say, they won't tell you who they are, but I always know which of my friends will come to my place, so if it is not one of my friends, then I do not answer.
