Re: 56k warriors

Ah, 56k, what the cavemen must have been using back in the day... and what I'm still using. :( But still, while it may be slow, it certainly makes you appreciate... well, everything else! As for my army size. Well, going through 10k turns takes me several hours, so my army is rather unspectacular...

Re: 56k warriors

It's Deity and I'm curious as to who typed that.

Anyway I'm now on 512 but was 36-40K an I'm on 32 mill.

It's no the speed that limits this game but the time you can be on with dial up and the cost of the call not to mention that you have tied up a phone line.

I like broadband because I can just let it go.

You guys cant be serious

Dialup in this age??

What is going on and in what parallel universe did I just happen to go to?
I dont know anyone with less than a 2mb internet line. Got the best Nextgentel line myself 20mb line ( or 18.3 effective though. ) This is just so wrong..

But the best of luck you dial up warriors. 8)

Re: 56k warriors

I am a part time dial up warrior
50% of the time im on 56k, the other 50%, im on capped 256k, which is esentially 68k, suprisingly enough my dial up is faster than my capped broad band in load times. I get maybe 2-4days of not being capped per month max. except for 1 month where the 2 bloody 12 year old girls werent here and I got 3 weeks.

Jack O'Neill wrote:What I don't understand is why people use net companies that have limits :? I didn't think that still existed :? another thing I can't comprehend is why even have dial up versus the cheapest DSL connection (in America atleast) the cheapest DSL here is $15 that's a nation wide plan (as in available to everyone cross the lower 48 dunno about Canada and the islands) dial up is $10 (unless you get the gimmick "high speed" dial up which is $15 and NOT broadband) so why not just pay the extra $5? There is no limits on how much you can use it I just don't understand this if you can't "afford" the extra $5 then walk up and down a couple streets you'll find $5 in loose change or simply keep all the loose change you get through out the month and use that it should equal out to more then $5

$10 = 56k Net with potential for other phone charges

$15 = DSL broadband (I wouldn't consider it true broadband but meh) no limits no extra phone charges hell you don't even need a phone

In short... because you don't need a phone for DSL DSL is actually CHEAPER then dial up (in the U.S. at least)

Well in my case im in australia, and while, i guess the howard government was busy pretending to do other stuff they neglected australias internet capabilities. Cheapest plan on average (that wont stiff you) here is about $30, and they tend to have around the 300mb download limit mark, with 128 - 256kb/s speeds, tops. the further you are from an exchange the further off this mark it is obviously. after that they tend to go up similar to this

$40 - 600mb download - 256
$50 - 1-2 gig download - 256
$60 - 7-10 gig download - 256 - 1mb
$70 - 20 gig download - 1mb
$80 - 20gig download - 1.5 - 2mb

anything after that is just stupidly expensive and really only companies use it, especially since internet providers tend to only list them under company packages.

Telstra is stingy, they charge to much for thier lines, (they own like every single line in Aus  )

Anyways, yeah, our net is complete **Filtered**. I know for the same price as the lowest DSL here, you can get about 20mb a second unlimited cable in Estonia.

Re: 56k warriors

DSL everywhere is a nice concept but where I live there is Wireless or Dial-UP.

Wireless $35/month
Dial-UP-$15/month + $35/month for a phone

Only have a cell phone so no land line at the house so no dial up. Wireless it is and we just barely got it in town in the last 6 months. Living rural has it's drawbacks. Although Dyneasty doesn't complain when he is up doing laundry and has to use the wireless to download, it works well. He is 15 miles away from me and has DSL there.

Re: 56k warriors

It is definitely cheaper and it allows several of us to be on at the same time. As long as they have a card and are close enough to my house they can log on. I don't have close neighbors so we don't usually get any strays on the router. That is probably the biggest benefit.

Massing parties are great, we just can't all hit the same person. IP issues and all. Have to plan ahead, if we want to mass the same person we need to be at our own houses. If it is an alliance mass we just have to make sure we are paired up with others to go massing. Then it is fun having us all together.

Re: 56k warriors

ive used 28k-56k-isdn 64 and 128 - 528 or what ever its called
then 1meg - 2meg - now on a supposed 8mg all this over a period of hmmm 18-20 years dunno some of its a blur.
ive used isps in the uk and the usa and france

the best line was 128k isdn with deamon in the uk

the line doesn't mean anything if the isp sucks.

i use 8meg now its a free isp with a phone company
the dls are fast sometimes but the overall line and consistency suck

some pages wont load
first person shooters are worse than 128k isdn by far
the pings are good but never stable and the dns is always dropping

the isp is talktalk uk
the problem is how much is your speed worth too you
cause the more ya pay the better it is

Re: 56k warriors

I'm a 56K warrior and always have been :(
Fastest connection I have used is a T1 line in uni. Fastest download was 600KB/s
When broadband comes out my way I'll be getting the fastest connection available!
I'm sick of having dial-up..
