A new section to welcome people

I think it might be easier for new forum members to start posting on the forum if there was a section that was like Introduce Yourself or something to that effect where new forum members know they will get a hey, hello etc response post and not just be ignored which would give them more confidence posting next time.

In order to have new members feel welcome to the forum this would greatly increase confidence and allow people who are not generally that outgoing to post and not be worried about getting the wrong people angry and will hopefully allow newer people to break into this social structure we call a forum

Ok soz my fault I didn't know that was there although I don't think a lot of the new people that register on the forum do either. I mean the last post in there was nearly 2 months a go and I'm sure there have been hundreds of newly registered forum members since then.

I personally think there should be a section, just like This and That rather than just one thread. Each person could post how they got into the game, a little a bit about themselves in RL, what they want in the game etc ?

I agree with you Jack O'Neill, the section would have to be placed in the General category in my opinion so that new members noticed it as a lot of people will probably give up fairly soon if it isn't placed somewhere obvious. Can we get an admin's opinions/thoughts on this?

Yea, sounds great to me. some people dont know where to post at times so it could quite possibly cut down the movement of threads for the mods

This section would HELP to increase the overall friendliness of the forum it would create a newbie FRIENDLIER attitude and would be a great way for the Respect! group to "earn" that color of theirs

I say earn in the same context of a soldier going to war saying "it's time to earn those stripes" I don't mean they don't deserve it or that they didn't already earn it it's just a great way for them to show the community WHY they get the special color and WHY the group is important and give them a chance to actually lead by example in a very befitting way for the forums

It's one thing to stop the flaming it's another thing to actively stand out and "lead by example" without throwing it in others face in the context of what other ignorant forum members said when complaining about the Respect! group

I would go with the second one too, but I would hope that if there is a new member to the community others outside of the respect group would still welcome them.

A lot of people chose not to join the respect group, but that doesn't make them any less friendly or appropriate to say hello to new members. In fact there are a huge number of people on the forum not in respect that are great members of this community and I think would be willing so welcome anyone.

Obviously your 2nd option is the best Jack and that is my reason for suggesting this idea.
I just think that if there was a section specifically for introducing yourself then it would allow new forum members to break their way into the forum and become more confident about posting next time which would allow us to have another larger generation of new and interesting people with new and interesting ideas.
Whereas I think new forum members at the moment perhaps feel that they have to post in a thread that is about a certain thing however other forum members will think 'ah this person is a bit of a noob and doesn't know what they are talking about' so they decide not to post at all (I am not saying forum members think that, I'm saying that new forum members think that the other forum member think that).
A new section where people introduced themselves would allow the forum members to show the new members that they don't have that view.

Also the other thing is that it has to be somewhere fairly obvious (like in the general category) so that it is actually seen and posted in however at the moment there is only a thread in This, That and Those which new member don't know is there and don't want to go through all the threads on the forum to find a place where they are meant to introduce themselves.
