The official 'How many Untrained Mercs do you have?' thread

Since UM seem to have become the new must have item I thought it would be nice to have somewhere to tell the rest of the game how many you have collected.

and they are not pointless when you're trying to get every ascension point you can. they give more points than naq does and if UM are pointless then naq is even more pointless. but we know that isnt so dont we?

last time I checked (which, to be fair, was in February or so ) they gave you less APP than naq - the nice number given on the ascension screen is correct for trained mercs, yet you only get half the points for untrained mercs ...

but thing change with time and I have a total of 0 G&R, so I can't check if it's still true though

according to ones persons figures recently in the FAQ section the same amount of naq yeilds less APP then buying UKM with the same amount of UM.

let me see if i can find it. maybe they're basing the numbers on trained mercs? i dont know. i'll have to go back and check.

Think I saw somewhere that they give more APP than naq, but not sure on that. One nice thing about them is they're probably safer to store up than naq. And also if your in a pinch you could sell off some if you needed some emergency naq.

ok here it is. the quote i saw in a thread i have in FAQ about getting ascension points.

15bil naq can buy you 10mil untrained mercs from the market

15bil naq = 2,500 APP
10mil UM = 4,166 APP

so you can see, naq invested in UM yields a higher APP

spy lvls aren't good as the 200bil it takes to get from 25-26 only yields 25k APP, while that naq alone would be worth 33k APP

so IF this holds true, then UM serve a good purpose. yes it does means you'll have to have more than you can shake a stick at and would take awhile for someone like me because i cant buy them in large numbers like other players but...they are worth the investment IF (big if!) you are trying to get every APP you can get.

and that's exactly what im doing, taking my time and trying to get as many points as i can without exceeding the "you're paying for more than you're getting back" threshold. but if UM are giving more points than naq alone and there's no cap on how many you can have (there isnt a cap is there?) then im going to have as many as i can before i ascend, even if that means buying every UM from everyone in the game...everyone needs a goal even if its not very reasonable.
