It won't be suicide.. It'll just mean that whoever wants a PS3 cheaper than it is right now that they'll just have to wait. Also it's not Sony's fault that most people want everything for nothing. The PS3 is the best console and if you want the best you have to pay for the best. Simple as. Anyway you're getting an extra 20gb of space for what is/was the price of 60gbs.
Don't forget kids.. whatever any console can do the PS3 can do it better and faster

It was never going to be easy for Sony as they are the last released "next-gen" console. M$ have made their money back I'm sure but Sony are still in a deficit. A lot of PS fans have probably turned to 360 as it's cheaper but in the long run I think there will be more PS3's than any other console. Consoles come out, on average, every 5 years so in 3-4 years the PS3 will drop its price dramatically.
I also read that Sony are trying to make PS3 their console for the next decade! If that does happen it'll mean M$ will have to being out a more powerful machine to compete as the price of the ps3 will be very low and it'll mean that the next x box will be as expensive or more expensive than the PS3 is now and things will be back to normal..
I must say though.. M$ has done very well in the industry for the new kid on the block.

PS3 hasnt shown its superiority to the xbox 360 yet. so far it appears theres very little difference either way. in Neutral sites graphic comparisions, games on the 360 have slightly better graphics. the 360 is easier to code for. In the end though it does not matter which console is better and theres so far absolutly little difference between them, PS3 has a 60 GB hard drive...wow, ive had my 360 with 20 GB for months if not a year, and i still havnt used up the space. Now theyve released the 120 GB hard drive ill probably never run out of space lol

Its all gonna come down to the games. 360 has 95% of the best soon to be released games. About 30% of them are exclusive to the 360. Sony has almost run out of exclusives, MGS4 developers have declared unless the PS3 starts selling alot more units by the time theyve neared completion of the game...their gonna sell it to microsoft as well. If MGS4 goes PS3 has no chance and it already has a very slim chance anyway. It will never catch up to the 360, because 360 has lower price, more better games, over twice as many consumers for games (people who own a 360) and its delivery better services than sony.

Sony has failed to capatalise on what microsoft has. Soon the xbox 360 will stream TV, it already has the 2nd largest library of HD content available for download...ever. It has a truely amazing online service and amazing games to play on it to keep it interesting

Lets not forget Halo 3. PS3 owners claim kill zone 2 will be a \"Halo killer\". they claimed resistance would be a \"halo killer\"...it wasnt. Kill zone was nothing special it was good but not great. Everyone got hyped up about it at the start, but that was due to sony lies. They showed a trailer at E3 2005 of it, they said it was ingame footage. It wasnt it was CGI and had been prepared just for E3, it wasnt even made on a PS3 lol.

Even if it has better graphics than halo 3, which is so far unlikely, it will never beat halo gameplay or beat halo\'s popularity. Halo 3 has 4 million pre orders as of a couple months ago, its predicted to make $130 million in sales in just 1 week. Theres no stopping Halo 3.

Sure in theory Sony can create bigger games but whats the point? No developer will devote resourses to a console with under 6 million users. They may get a couple huge games but the chances of themstaying exclusive are very small because it would cost 10s of millions+ to develop a game, and they can not make that back from the limited amount of users. Hence why MGS4 developers have realised unless sales of the PS3 pick up, their not even going to break even.

Soon as sony starts building bigger games microsoft can just counter with HD DVD because lets not forget, you can buy a 360 and the HD Drive attacthment for less than a PS3. Blu ray is winning the format war but 360 is winning the console war. It has twice as many sales as The PS3. it has The largest majority of critically alcalimed games and is the only place you can play Pretty much ever good game exclusive or not. because The 360 has many good exclusives as well as those games shared between 360 and PS3. That and the cheaper price and larger fan base alone tips the balance in 360s favour.

It all comes down to games, thats why people really buy a console, 360 has Most of the best games with the exception of under 5 PS3 exclusives. 360 has over 10 exclusives, most of which are rated higher or will no doubt be rated higher when they come out eg Halo 3, splinter cell convition, PGR4, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Ace combat 6 etc. 360 has the most games, the best games, the largest variety.

Youl see alot of differences

1. Microsoft uses Alot of facts and figures, whereas Sony does not. These figures show nothing but good things for the 360 and all facts are genuine from sources. Sony didnt even bother trying to contradict them because Sony cant brag about its huge array of games, or Its success

2. Sony focussed alot more on The PSP through most of it and even aid its focusing alot of effort on the PSP. but even thats losing out to the Nintendo DS

Sony has made too many mistakes in too many areas for them to win. The best they can hope for is to beat the WII which is unlikely seeing how the WII is even becoming a challenge for 360

PS3's support mostly comes from sony fans or people who all they have ever known is PS2. Soon as that illusion goes sony will have absolutly no hope. Their already losing billions more than micrsoft, even though its not about the money since thats something sony and micrsoft have alot of.

Sony is getting sued left right and centre though, they violated several patents with the PS3's blu ray technology and the PS3 and other sony products secure network technology. Experts have estimated theres a 70% chance at least of sony losing the patent case and when it loses blu ray and its online service, it will again, be game over for sony. theres so many ways PS3 can crash and burn, its only a question of which way it will be.

Check gamespot for updates on the patent violation cases which is a neutral site that deals with all major consoles. pretty good website anyway, its podcast "The hotspot" is so funny

I don't think the future is that bad for Sony, yes it's been a rough start but Xbox has had 2 christmas periods to sell! I'm sure they will catch up on sales with the lower price/bundles they are now offering.

hmmm i think your right actually, im not sure where i got the 6 million number from mabe the amount of games sold i dont know the statistics tend to blend together over time I definetly read it on gamespot but it was probably in the comments section by a PS3 fan boy or something

better for 360 . i dont think PS3 can come back but you never know it might get close. the problem is its few good exclusive games are all scheduled for next year whereas most of 360s are coming out this year. So yet again sony will lose out during holiday periods. I dont think the price drop is enough, the few good exclusives (some mightnt be for long eg MGS4) and so far unproven "superiorness" just dont warrent the relative huge price tag.

yeh halo 2 was a disapointment, halo was great though and mabe its just the hype but halo 3 looks alot better. It seems to have captured what made halo great again with the improvments of halo 2, eg no health bar and the scale of the battles. halo 2 story was terrible mainly because it was merely to bridge the gap. Even bungie admitted they rushed it.

Bungies had years to work on halo 3 and theyve brought back my favorite gun the assault rilfe Even though i did think the battle rifle was a solid gun and it was alot of fun to kill with.

From what ive seen of halo 3 from the multiplayer beta and all the trailers, its gonna be more like halo than halo 2 and thats not a bad thing

i played through halo on my 360 today and it was still an amazing game so i recon halo 3 will do well.

The brutes added nothing to gameplay and even took away from it. Im glad bungies decided to make them more "elite like" as theyve shown in their making of halo 3 vidocs. Your right though halo 2 wasnt that great but if you can overlook its few flaws it was a good game. i hated the ending though, i was one of the people who threw their controller in the general direction of my TV, fortunatly i was sitting on the wire so it missed

cant wait for halo 3 though that will be an amazing game with none of the problems of halo 2, you can mute people on xbox live now that you dont want to listen to, bungies been developing it for ages so has all the time it needs to make a glitch free, briliantly fun game. I atleast want to know how the story ends since even though i dont like sci fi much, i like halo (i think sci fi should be used in a halo or Predator context to justify huge amounts of realistic violence and great wars )

I think what we haven't seen in this thread is a black and white account of the issues.

There are fans here who support their system. I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong, but it's almost like the cigarette company telling you smoking isn't associated to lung cancer... observer/reporter bias I mean.

One question: 360 will stream TV? So you can pull the tv from the internet to your 360 then to TV? Why not just go from cable to TV?

Call of duty 3 in US is $50
Call of duty 3 in Ireland is $81

Region free means I save $31 on the game, add that to the $350 I save buying PS3 console in US rather than Ireland($500 for 60GB, in Ireland its E630/$850) means I can buy so much more for alot less.

Region free is a god send.

itl have to. It seems i was optimistic with my estimate of PS3 owners there are so that means that MGS4 developers will have to get the development costs from somewhere and its in the 10s of millions as are all good next gen games. But from what ive heard MGS4 will be the biggest game ever (probably speculation) but if it is that means more cost. Not to mention the developer will want as much profit as possible and arguably, sony could refund the development costs and if they want to keep it theyl have to.

But that has other problems eg all developers for PS3 want their costs payed, and it starts the neverending cycle of sony losing money over the PS3

Anyway i recon itl come out on 360, within half a year of the PS3 version because The developer will not want to be in loss for more than a couple months. Not a question of if, a question of when.

i dont know how they intend to move it over to 360 though since its porbably more than the 9 GB a top of the range game disc can hold. but atleast itl be there even if it is something like 4 discs
