new player question

I've been trying to figure the ascended game out. I just played in the dark. Every five days or so, I suddenly come up with an enormous amount of dark matter, like billions. Does the game just trade excess ascended life force into dark matter when it feels like it? I was eating lunch yesterday and when I came back I had been raided 6 times for over 2 billion. I didn't have any large amount of dark matter before, and my ascended life force was near max. My reserves are over max. I keep trading my ascension force for dark matter to prevent this, but I'm not even sure that's what happens.
There aren't random mystery cash prizes are there?
Cause that's what it seems like.
Any help is appreciated.
The repairs are very expensive. My income generation is low 6 figures per turn, so I couldn't earn 2 billion in a half hour.

The caps and directness just seemed to find some kind of inner-resonance with the newer players, drawing them irresistibly the thread, in which it offered them the search function.

I am new in ascended wars, and just got admitted to tis forum. Since I don't really know what the heck is going on, how would I know which sticky to read? It's like the snide answer did you search? You have to have a vague idea of what to look for to search. Until this moment I had no idea I got a share of superweapon funds. Lotto winnings or bag of cash found in bus locker were equally plausible explantions as far as I am concerned. Thanks first responder for the link. Rest of you, congratulations on your superior knowledge. Feel proud.
