Re: Advice from one ascension noob to others
Some of the ascended rules have changed since I originally wrote this "guide", as it were. I'll update soon with some other insight and suggestions I've come across and make a few edits to bring it into line with the rule changes.
Regarding the reserve life force question, I have the following opinions:
1. If you've put many points into Energy Flow, you generate free life force at a much higher rate when you're below your maximum energy level. For example, I have level 20 in Energy Flow. According to my Introspection page, I get 461 ascended life force per turn when I'm below my maximum. That's all "free" life force. I don't have to farm it and I don't have to convert DMU to get it. So, if you're going to spend down life force to do upgrades, I'd advise spending down as far down as you can (500 or so) and wait until you've gotten all the "free" life force you can before you go converting DMU for more. However, if you are concerned about the possibility of someone descending you, read on.
2. The less life force you have on hand, the easier you are to descend, particularly if you've put a bunch of points into Maximum Natural Energy Capacity. The way the descension process currently works, there is a cap on the maximum amount of ascended damage you can take in a single hit and you can only take one ascended attack every 4 hours.
As an example, I have level 22 Maximum Natural Energy Capacity, which gives me a max life force level of 12,823 making my life force reserves 128,230 (10x life force). The absolute most damage that I can take in a single ascended attack is half of my maximum life force reserves, or 64,114 life force which is further reduced by my Defense Power Level & Skill as well as my Personal Constitution.
So, assume worse case with 0 available life force, no Defense Level or Skill and no Personal Constitution, I could be descended in 2 attacks (8 hours). On the other hand, if I have 2 million life force, it would be next to impossible to EVER descend me because the most damage someone could do is 64K and they'd have to work through the 2 million life force + my reserves. By my calculations, that would take 30+ attacks spanning over 5 days (assuming I was hit exactly every 4 hours) and consume almost 3000 turns. It could be done, but it would take a lot of sustained effort and more turns than a single account could hold. It also assumes that I did absolutely nothing to try to save myself (like converting DMU into life force) and that I had already had my defense broken (never try to descend someone who has a defense).
If you want to make your account difficult to descend, keep your Maximum Natural Energy Capacity low and always keep some life force on hand. If you've already upgraded Maximum Energy to a high level and you still want to afford yourself some descension protection, you'll need even more life force "on hand" and/or have a Defense Level, Defense Skill, and very high Personal Constitution so you take less damage from an attack.
Some of this information may be different soon as I hear there is yet-another-update coming for ascended. I'll update the guide again after we find out for sure what happens. If any of this information is incorrect, I'd welcome a correction from a knowledgeable player. Have fun out there.

Not so much a Noob, but I've got a Noob question....What good do Kills do for you? I've got 2 Kills with my account, but they don't seem to do anything. Are these just for bragging rights?

At this time, they are for show only.

Re: Advice from one ascension noob to others
I have something to say on the use of turns - instead of using them to raid/attack, sell them on the market. keeping about 1000 is good if you do get into a fight, but using them just to use them may get you noticed. and the DMU you get from selling turns can be a big boost if you're just starting out.
political correctness is a doctrine fostered by an illogical liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mass media that holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
I believe gun control is being able to hit your target.

first off you can't use turns to raid anymore. secondly, you only get 1mil/turn selling on the ingame Ascended market. If you're just starting out, you can very easily get way more DMU by attacking inactives on ascended with absolutely no risk.

Re: Advice from one ascension noob to others
what is better 15 million dmu from selling 15 turns
or 4 trillion DMU for farming with 15 turns. (Provided you have a big enough strike)
selling turns is the worst possible thing you can do in this game. You only have 2k of them. The DMU received by selling them is not a just compensation for there worth. You are better off either letting them build up or you know actually play the game.

You probably mean 4bil. Also for finding player with 4 bil. out in the open, one should have quite big covert which the newer players have not. I am writing this as a newbie too
