but i dont disagree with all you say... people are not willing to lift a finger to help anyone worse off than them. 'i earned what i have so why should i give it away?' the common excuse of people too pathetic to help anyone but themselves. although this sounds like a total preach i dont care what choice people make. i will keep fighting as long as i live to make a difference, no matter how small. this has nothing to do with good and evil, it has to do with the uncaring nature of people towards someone they have never met. no matter how small a donation a person makes, $3 or less, any effort helps.

I don't mean to be insulting but essentially my entire family is rags to riches sort of deal. My great grandfathers on both sides got there, one worked in a mine from age 12 to 18, got sick of it and made a difference. The other one was born the child of a prostitute and a jewish sea captain, he made a start in business by collecting discarded nails, straightening them, and then selling them.

None of them had help. My own mother went from being a single mother in Law School and working 3 jobs, to being a lawyer and business owner who is on the world scale very wealthy. She never got much help, she had to pay mortgages and more. And how is she rewarded with a lifetime of hard work? "Think of those less fortunate."

@ Apadamek - Hey there I just want to say props to your family for getting from rags to riches. I do not and would not take anything away from that. One question for you.. Did she do this in one of the world's poorest countries with everything I mean everything working against her.. Understand that yes what your family has gone through was indeed rough, no-on is taking that away from you but simply put was she from South Africa?

I think that most of us if we could would try to save everyone I know that I would but in doing so I would have to "change" the perspective of most of the people around me. Here is where we get into the problem. There is no such thing as absolute good, or right for that matter.
As for ones disposable income most problems cannot be solved just by throwing money at them. Personally I believe that society suffers from a kind of Moral Corruption. The most glaring example of this is the "Me" complex. We have all seen it before. "What has this got to do with me" or my personal favorite cop out How is it any of my business" People have been using these rationalizations for a long time, and you would think that they would have realized the folly inherent in this view. THAT SOONER OR LATER YOU ARE GOING TO NEED THE HELP OF THE PEOPLE THAT YOU WROTE OF BEFORE, and truthfully they would probably be justified when they don't come to your rescue

@Apadamek - congrats to your family, im sure they deserve what they have worked hard for. its obvious they have the ability to think creatively enough to change their lives. sadly the biggest problem with poor and impoverished people is that they dont have that creative ability to think of a solution to get out of a situation. i dont expect anyone to give away everything they have to help those less fortunate or hard working. the thing that divides the poor and those better off is knowledge. not everyone is naturally good at a skill. your family seems to have a natural ability and drive to change their own circumstances. just sharing that knowledge would make a huge difference in someones life. the greatest gift you can give to a person in need is the knowledge of how to change those needs. money and food aid help ease the current situation a bit but in the long run it will make things worse as people come to depend on aid. teach them a skill and they wont need that aid.
Give a man a meal today and tomorrow he will be hungry again, teach him how to farm and he will have more food than he can eat himself.
knowledge costs us nothing to give away but can make more of a difference than all the money in the world.

@Everyone else, look I posted the damn video because it touched my heart. not only did it touch my heart it opened my eyes a like a lot of things people want to share, I felt i wanted to share this video. I am shocked and to be honest appauled by the views of many though I can't change them. I just have to question why the hatred? why the give up attitude? Why say strew it? Are we all that weak to not see this persons point in the video. It is a message of hope and you know what it gave me just that. Sadly reading a lot of these post, I question why I put this artist in a place to be criticised. I understand everyone has a opinion and I do respect them all, sometimes I just have to question why everyone is so harsh with their words? Rather it be money we give or a simple thought that goes out to those in need is better then nothing. I do not have the means to send money for AID if i did you better believe I would. I would go over there and rebuild, hell i would give trillion IF I had it. You know the old saying thogh "If "if" were a fifth we would all be drunk". I didn't ask for a bunch of criticism or perhaps i did putting it in the forum, but did i want negative responses NO. Did i want one of my alliance mates to get involved in stupid debates.NO. I simply posted it to share it. So in the end I guess I get what I deserve. Sorry Cred, i didn't think this would turn into such a issue...

First, I'd like to give my opinion on the Poem. It's an extremely well written and clever work. I say this as a writer myself. It's moving and emotional. and true in every sense. The negative to the positive. There are a few of these I found by same guy, all very clever and dealing with different themes. I like his style a lot.

Now I'd like to address a few comments in this topic. I won't quote cause I'd take up page and a half, if I did.

Magini ~ Are you serious? I doubt it! I feel like you're an attention grabber/forum trouble maker. You disagree to disagree. Will counter point anything that's said, if you believe it or not and keep argument going.

To the rest of the negative people, you make solid points backed by opinion and perspective. Not saying I disagree with you all entirely, at all! The world as whole cares only about itself. There is sadness, atrocities, epidemics, intolerance, selfishness, greed, deception, and tragedy in the world. I could tell you my sob story, and believe me I got one! But as bad as mine is, there are millions who suffer like none of us can imagine! And I don't care how bad you've had it, there's always worse off people.

That being said, the poem is ment to make you think! Question which perspective are you? Which perspective do wish to embrace? Which do you want others to embrace? A good piece of art, be it literature, music or visual, should make the audience think.

No one person can change the world, but we can make a difference. Scientific studies have proven a smile is contagious. If one random person genuinely smiles at another random person, that person will smile at someone else in random encounter, ect. Now if I smile can be infectious, why can't a way of thinking be? It takes time to change the world! Does everyone think in a positive manner at the moment? HELL NO! Not even close! But the people who embrace a better way of thinking, a better way of living, and a better way of treating everything in this universe, we teach our children these values. Try to help family and friends try to change themselves.

Any raise in social conscious is a good thing. Not all of us are as Noble as credadun, and I say that with respect, not sarcasm. But the little thing are what add up! Pay it forward, do unto others, Golden rule, Karma, ect. They are all very real, it takes you as well to adopt these ideals. And with the bleak viewpoints and sarcastic responses, It feels a lot more like your looking into yourself, and describing your own reflection. BELIEVE me when I say I don't think I'm better morally than anyone! And could stand to be more giving myself! But like Adamix said, It starts with you! Each individual. To borrow a quote from Staragte SG1 " The universe is so vast, and we are so small. There is only one thing we can truly control, that is if we are good or evil". Evil in this sense meaning our perspective towards the world around us.

I mean, you can, odds are you're a pretty strong fellow, people would not be able to stand up against you. Obviously "because I can" is a good enough reason to do something, so why don't you do something to profit yourself? Why do you go out of your way to help them?

@ Jack of course I am going to speak for my freind not only is he a freind he is apart of my alliance and in the beginning I started this topic. he posted his opinion and that is that. this is a open forum discussion if you do not wish to reply to my post's you don't have to. Cred didn't ask for any of this. he spoke out 'BFD". I do no think he should be badgered, or think he should be questioned about why is doing good deeds for a better society. " Because he can ", is bout the best answer he can give. I mean he helps, cause he's able to. If everyone who could help actually helped, we'd be in a much better state as a world. You can't have free will, without having Evil as well. We have free will, therefore we chose our actions, " cause we can". He chooses to help, " cause he can ". People chose to be idiot, " cause they can ". Great thing bout having a soul/spirit/Chee, is that we control what we are and how we act.

I've done lots of bad things in my life when I was younger, " cause I could ". But I could've just as easily had done good thing for same reason. Crd's point was he makes the descion/effort to try to to do something.

And to point out I've only spoke to Cred 1-2 times before this. I'm not speaking for him, or represent him in any way. I'm voicing my opinion, that is all.
