Re: If you have kids, read this

When you have children, your whole life changes. It becomes full of fear. I kid you not. Everything is a threat. It hits you with appalling impact just how many ways things can go wrong. The fragility of the human body really hits home. The list of illnesses that can kill us seems infinite. And diusease is just one way our precious bundles can come to harm. There are car accidents, abductions, fires, drowning, dog attacks, knives, curtain cords, electric sockets, snakes.... as well as other forms of harm such as bullying and the above mentioned molestations. The world becomes an enemy.
But once you have the parent mindset, it affects you in regard to other children too. I can't read the newspaper without breaking into tears around page 5. And reading that original article Jed posted made me ill. I know you don't have kids, Spacey, but you have worked with them in (I think it was) South America?
I can answer this. Having been in danger of losing my daughter as a young baby it is the end of the world. Nothing, but nothing can compare with that. I had a friend whose child was killed when he ran on to the road. I no longer have that friend. She killed herself 7 months later, when we all thought that she was starting to come out of it.
Nutshell here - there is nothing worse that could happen than to lose a child. It's incomprehensible. I could quite happily watch my house burn down in flames destroying everything we own as long as my kids were out of it.

Okay - enough serious Apollo. What happened to the Spam Temple overnight? It seems to have died.
