Big part of it is nostalgia or plain not being there to experience it first hand.

I mean sure massings meant more, sounds fun eh? Well it wasnt if you didnt run with the right crowd cos for a long time the majority of top players just allied themselves for convenience sake and kept others under the thumb. Nobody that was part of that group bothered playing ascended cos they were litterary picked apart, raided to the ground.

And sure there was less flaming etc. on the forum back then, but mainly cos it was no strange thing for one to get massed for saying the wrong thing to one of the privelaged... and since massings hurt people were getting stomped into the ground and quit over it. So most bit their tounges. Not to even get into all the forum modship abuse/domination dramas we`ve been through the years heh.

So yea, theres two sides to every story. Might be shiny on the surface but it wasnt exactly some golden and idillic age.
Far more average user friendly nowadays, both the forums and ingame.

It was more fun to mass then and to get massed.

Until my 13th account I was never very big but I still fought hard and back then you could do that with hard work on your account.

Now, well, it takes a few weeks to set up a decent account mate, lol.

I know, I have sold several of them over the years. ;)

Admin has been told what's wrong - now one can only hope he will listen.

Most players who remember the old days want the game as it was.

Planets as they are are a bug.
Accounts repair after massings to fast.
Wars mean nothing.
Perg realm is not being used for what it was intended.

I`m happy that we agree on something ;)

I did mention it before and due to the cash spenders it was a bit more difficult to remove it but planets were the worst update this game ever had, it`s the worst update any other game could have ](*,)

the general idea was to help the smaller guys grow quicker, the reality was it madethe big players grow significantly....

I`m sure the game would return more then by a fraction to the time when it was good like we remember if the planets were removed...

1. you don`t have to work for uu because you have planets
2. you don`t have to work for naq because you have planets

For the big guys farming and raiding has lost it`s meaning, back in the days if you didn`t farm or raid you had nothing......a nice BIG ROUND ZERO

these days???? don`t go farming or raiding, you`ll still find a pot loud of resources on your acount....

planets basically( that`s not the word I had in mind  ) killed the game itself and as for the threads where guys suggest how to increase inactivity, I got a tip for ya...urge Jason to remove the planets from the game without harming the cash spenders....

There are still people like me who lived the good old days and can compare the past and the present and I dare you to ask each one of them which was better and I can promise you that the only ones that will say that with the planets is the game better are the statbuilders..... :-$

I remember the days when omega was really feared, not "feared" as it is now....
Going to war with them meant losing crap load of resources not to mention if they promised you they would sit on you for a while, that`s when it got really serious for any alliance in the game, even the top ones because they were the ones who could survive and didn`t ran from wars just to statbuild again.....

these days going to an alliance war against omega is a pretty solid way how to grow quickly, as farms they are great just as any other big alliance and you all know it from the big server war ;)

you simply don`t even have to try hard and that`s what made people go less active or inactive....
no need for help from alliance mates, no need for help with resources, no strategy no nothing....

I came back to have some fun but even with that I still don`t enjoy as before, no major goals to work for nothing....
That`s why I wrote in the recruit section that I am looking more for friends and "family" rather than a top alliance.

Simply this game doesn`t have anything more to offer me then new friends...sad indeed 8-[

Let`s face it, with all do respect for Jason, in these days he doesn`t listen to players as he used to back then and the game is more oriented on the cash spenders than players who dedicated several years of playing to get the game where it is....

Just as with the sports, the players don`t play for themselves but for the fans and if there is noone to watch, there is noone to play forand the same goes for the game....
if there are no people to play it, then the game itself has no meaning to exist

I wish this game would exist more for the players who still play than for an easy income [-(

And how do you do that? Refund thousands of dollars to those that bought from the market? And more thousands of dollars to those whom bought supporter packages to protect those planets? It's impossible.
If you want to fix planets. Limit their power adding properties. Rather then getting 500% in 1 stat area, limit it. To like 250%, or 200%, or even 100%. Then it's not "PlayerX inflicts 600b damage on PlayerY. 500B damage came from planets." It would be "PlayerX inflicts 200b damage on PlayerY. 100B damage came from planets." More reasonable? I think so.

I still have my first account for closely 4 yrs now, and I started playing it cause it was StarGate based, but now I play it cause I just like seeing my account grow bigger, and I've been working on my account for a really long time and I don't really want to see it turn into a waste. Ya sure I do a few $$ trades lately so I could pay off some blog fees and other stuff like that, but the game isn't the same with out the Tauri, Asgard, Gau'ld, and Replicator thing. I KNOW I know the MGM thing pinned it cause it used the StarGate theme, but it doesn't mean you couldn't just change the species names to something else to help keep its original feel of the game.

I will still play the game ether way, cause it's still fun and I still meet new people to play along with, almost a perfect game (besides that "custom race name" feature), and yes I do like the planets so sue me

That's a logical explanation I tend to have forgotten about a bit...but you cannot say the ingame politics weren't more interesting back then than now? CIA vs CoPs, GA vs brothercrit's ingame GA, The Faction vs GA, Nebulator vs ETL, ETL revealing stuff about the 2005 old skool TA...

The game's fine now, nothing wrong with it. So what if a new person can catch up to an old person quickly, it brings in new people. Otherwise you'd have the untouchable top ranks warring against each other, a middle region who beat the smaller ones and get beat up and finally, the crud region who just get pummeled and quit.

Great idea there folks, anyone who didn't start playing the game in 2005, please delete your account and buzz the hell off
