How does that ruin your idea? They do something to the sun and get caught in the effect. Maybe its a % chance that they get caught in the effect and not something that happens every time. The person attacked should however still have a chance to stop the grav flux that happened to the sun.
I like this! A percentage chance means people might be willing to risk their mothership to do a crapload of damage, I wouldnt make the percentage too much higher than 20% ish, but the damage dealt should somewhat reflect the risk to your ms...?

Mabye even include a smaller percentage chance that if the defender loses their ms could be caught up in the explosion... say 1/4 - 1/2 of that of the attackers risk.
If the damage was dealt as a percentage basis, depending on your ms stats I think that would suit all players mabye? I'm not sure on the formula at all. up to a max... assymptote mabye or something?
