I think it would be a good extension to the game, I mean why not?
Keep uu unkillable, remove ALL use of $$ (lets PLAY IT, not BUY it...).
Have new races..Have the originals ones. But I suggest, you change their bonuses. Goauld should have an all-round bonus, like 5% on each stat. Tauri should have covert, as they are small in number and more covert like. Replicators should have strike, to represent their continued attack on other races for tech and building materials. Asgard should have stronger weapons and cheaper upgrades (like far superior discounts and strengths compared to other races, basically maiking weapons for them cheaper.) But they should suffer on UP, but their soldiers should be harder to kill. (To represent both their dying race and the ability to clone..) The have the Tok'ra with a purely defensive bonus. Then I think you should have the wraith (why not? Have some fun!) slap them up with the income bonus to show their reliance on slaves and ability to grow their ships etc...
Finally maybe a followers of the Ori race..with a mothership and defense bonus.
Then A new angle on planets. Why not have a new system, TONS of planets (I MEAN TONS!!)...but planets HOLD you uu. So they dont give you +covert, strike, defense, UP or income, instead they are needed to hold your untrained units. Basically, if you lose a planet then, you LOSE a hell of a big thing! Maybe give each planet a 1mill uu capacity. WIth a chance to upgrade it. (The obvious disadvantage of this being the fact that of you upgrade the planet to hold 10mill uu, and you lose that planet..well...WOOPS!)
How do you lose planets? Well you have a power and reputation score. (like war score now) Except losses count as negative. The higher the score the more likely you are to conquer the planet and convert the occupants to your cause.
Ie. Lets say, game just begun, Person A has 5 planets, 1mill uu on each. Person B has 3 planets, a mill uu on each. Person B has just successfully massed another person in the opening hours and has 150mill war score. Person A has just been farming, has won most, giving him a total 170mill, but has failed on some and lost some men, so ends up with a total of 140mill war score. Person B attacks A, and has a 10mill lead, which is a 15% bonus. This is then put into some code, I cannot begin to imagine, that so when Person B attacks A and destroys A's defense (so masses it away) Person B has a 15% chance to convert one of person A's planets to his realm, because he, like a goauld has conquered, OR as a tauri/asgard has freed and now protects, or as an replicator has exterminated and consumed all natural resources to produce new replicators.
This planet idea would need to be fine tuned but I think that would be a better use for planets.
I also think you should be able to have a more personalised commander for your realm. It is these commanders that can ascend, but only by being good. Like it should be. But give a bad commander a chance to steal the knowledge. Ultimately Ascention should remain, but be a hell of a lot harder for everyone, and not based on ranks. Though im not sure on what it could be based on otherwise.
So overall, a second main server, with some new sexy/shiny upgrades would be amazing. Even better if their was no possible use of $$ (SS is bought solely with ingame resources, the ONE and ONLY use for the market in the new main.)
It would make people play, and everyone would have a chance to get at anyone, it would truly be a game, rather then just what main is now.
