Re: Annual Awards
There was a 2007 award vote which was plagued by rumors and accusations of mishandling, incorrect tabulation, vote tampering, etc. The results were eventually discarded and abandoned after nearly everyone realized how silly all that hassle had become and the second attempt was only half-hearted.
Good luck finding someone with the stomach to go through that all over again.

"Great holy armies shall be gathered and trained to fight all who embrace evil. In the name of the gods, Browsers shall be changed to carry the internet out amongst the peoples and we will spread Firefox to all the unbelievers. The power of the Firefox will be felt far and wide and the wicked users of IE shall be converted to use the true browsers."

Re: Annual Awards
They were a farce.
And what makes you think they'll anymore successful a third time around? It's not as if the community has improved since then.

Actually, the second attempt at last years awards was halted by me due to some dubious reasoning by some people for removing the first set of votes, lack of evidence that there was multi-voting (and trust me - I spent 24 hours sifting through everything), as well as numerous other reasons. It seems nobody could be bothered to continue them after that.
The 2006 Awards went off relatively smoothly though, and the winners can be found in this thread:

And the 2006 (inaugural) additions to the Hall of Fame were:

There will be awards this year, keep your eyes peeled later in the month for more details.

Yes, they were, but if I'm brutally honest, that was down to the way they were managed - not because of the way the community nominated or voted.
@ Mukasa - Thanks!
