Day Of Uprising Against Occupation - Celebrations?

"dan upora proti okupatorju" (see subject for translation)

Let's celebrate the whole day long! :D
This day marks the establishment, in 1941, of the Liberation Front to fight the German, Italian and Hungarian occupation of Slovenia.
Isn't it great? :)

Oh, and to our Finnish Friends; Let us remember the Veterans today!

South Africa; Freedom Day! :D Let's dance and remember we're free from Apartheid, whether we be black, white or whatever other hues the human skin can take. :)

All Sierra Leoneans, congratulations on your independence! You fought long and hard for it, and it is well deserved.

no not great tbh...its over 60 years ago...thats 2 generations....things have moved on since then massively in those countries.....

im all for remembrance day and anything that remembers those who gave their lives at the correct/mistake decision by their goverments to go to any war....but not things that barely seem relevant in this day and age...

the actions of our forefathers arent necessarily something to celebrate after 60 years...

;-)

btw just watched flags of our fathers and letters of Iwo Jima back to back....a very good explanation of how war really is just a distortion of the truth no matter what the result

That sentence is terrible wrong in it's self, if not for my American forefathers there would be no America, and that was well over 3 generations ago, plus a few more...

but this isn't a debate thread now is it? nope, it's a thread of celebration and remembrance. And while i can't say if i had any family involved in the liberation of Slovenia, i can't say that i did not, my Great Grandpa was in Europe during the entire time-span of the situation.

after almost 70 years...who could say?....completly theorectical...and as for america if the original indigenous people didnt get persecuted who can say what kind of country it would be now?

your basing your arguement on your forefathers...hence my first post....your 3rd generation forefather stood up to nazism and facism but is Germany as a country now still living under that doctrine?....no....

as in my first paragraph perhaps being an american maybe your 8th generation father took part in the persecution of the native red indians which was prevelant at that time.....its all relative....all i was saying is regardless of the celebration of 'freedom' in certain conflicts i think that after a period of time it doesnt become relative anymore....only those that sacrificed their lives in either the right or wrong circumstances should be celebrated....;-)

@ Nimras, J/W at this, but didn't she 'translate' it in the message, explaining what it stated?

She translated what she said. It's also a name, thus the rules regarding the exclusive use of English do not apply. Let's not forget the disrespect that is, not using the name in it's native language atleast once. IDK abotu others here, but I'd be quite annoyed if say some Frenchie was to "celebrate" America's independence and only speak in French. It'd be a slap in the face.

I'm going to defy Mordack convention and agree strongly with Jack. The copying and pasting of a single phrase in no way equates to 'speaking a foreign language.' You may as well start punishing people for using French expressions, or penalize TLE for their latin mottos. That was a stupid and unecessarily zealous enforcement of the rules.

rofl @ that whole you are not allowed to post in another language stuff anyway. While I do understand that the mods would have problems modding in all different kinds of languages, I am still wondering which Nazi came up with the idea that it is not allowed to post a single quote in its original language. That's well beyond ignorant.

Re: Day Of Uprising Against Occupation - Celebrations?

What I don't understand is with the number of MODs that have posted in this thread and that have probably seen this thread that this thread is still sitting in Stargate Wars GENERAL when it has nothing to do with the SGW INGAME activities. This should be moved elsewhere. I get sick of seeing the MODs leave stuff in General when it does not belong there.

Nimras says:
[It will be] Moved to the correct section [when] its had its 24 hours run i was told we give topics like this

Which is exactly enough for the Slovenian Day of the Uprising against Oppression, which lasts only one day. (Thank ETL I posted shortly after 0:00 local time.)

Given the number of Slovenian players and the importance of this day, I believe it warrants a thread to remember. Historic awareness is important if we are to prevent ourselves from making the same mistakes twice. And national heroism in the face of overwhelming adversity, as remembered on this day, is important for any society to remember.

I quite agree - perhaps he has been a little over-zealous in his application of the rule here (with all the excitement of becoming a supermod and all!), which is meant to prevent whole posts in a language other than English, since this is a predominantly English speaking forum. There's no problem with singular quotes, especially when translations are also provided.

I only just found out myself, but apparently there's an unwritten understanding that threads such as these may be left for 24 hours before moving.

As much as I agree with you clarkey, use the report function... though I did and Bazsy closed the report with no action.
