Turn Changes

HAI! JASON!

(how many servers do you have?)

turn ticks are approaching the 1minute-2minute mark of latency...

so why not offload MySQL onto a dedicated server? I'm sure you could find something relatively inexpensive to use as a MySQL server. Like that the actual game never lags on turn ticks but you've got a processing server (heck, if its fast enough you'd almost consider have the ranks update every 5-10-15 minutes)
TRADE FEEDBACK - I am an A+ trader! Safest $ trades in all of SGW. I do escrow services too!

I think it would be better if the rank changed every 1 hour or 2 hours. besides. I think its pretty normal it delays every 30 min.

try and host a server with 90 thousand men. lol even the big EA server in battlefield doesn't hold so much people ! :-D

Re: Turn Changes

No but servers like GW and WoW can handle millions.....

I don't have a 2 minute lag time on my end, 30 seconds at most here on each turn, and im like 8000-10000 miles away from the server.

u cant compare that with a SGW servers lol.

besides if u play WoW and ur a earopean , u'll have a european version so u only would be able to play it in earopean servers witch means less lag.

GW and dont know what that is.

The same way you cannot compare a text based game to an EA server running BF or anything else, as them servers require a hell of alot more power and bandwidth to run.

Also according to Mystakes profile there on the forums hes in Canada so right there hes already several thousand miles closer to the server than me, yet my lag time is 25% of his, id say his lag issue is more local to him than the servers themselves.

Re: Turn Changes

I was under the impression that the lag time increase was security based and intentional?

Re: Turn Changes

Correct. The lag is intentional.

Re: Turn Changes

Anybody else remember when we were put onto that new server and all the old accounts were deleated to get rid of lag? We could not deleate all the old accounts now as we have raiding, but an overhall may be needed. personally it doesn't bother me that much really I just don't trade in the few mins either side of it.

Re: Turn Changes

Well after some study I've come to realize that mine works like this.

As soon as the 1 minute turns to 0 minutes, if i can click deposit inside the first 7 seconds the game lags, 30 to 45 seconds. After the lag its 0 minutes left but my naq has hit and is open. I click deposit again and I get a second lag that lasts from 15 to 30 seconds. My naq banks and attacks hit inside the same minute but get nothing.

Re: Turn Changes

you can't compare a browser game like this to MMO's like WoW or GW. The problem with doing that is because those MMO games are actually ran on clusters of servers all inter-connected to each other. I never really played the more recent MMO games but anyone that played the RO a few years back would know that. It wouldnt be a bad idea to actually split the DB on a game like this since it is getting big, but it will case sync issues.

As for putting the DB off on it's own dedicated server and keeping the front-end where it is now, I doubt that would give any notable improvements in speed, since the dedicated server will just go into crunch mode every 30 minutes (possibly ignoring future queues while in this mode from the front-end) which leads back to the same problem you're trying to solve in the first place.
