Copy and paste sigs

these get me so peed off, i see people making a random background, slapping on an image or two and charging over the odds prices for it. A sig should involve blending and be made more personal and have more feeling than that in my opinion.

Your thoughts on this?

Teach those whose skills you deem so far beneath you.
What have you done to prevent this from happening? :P

not much, but i make sure i always make my sigs with depth and thought, and if anyone would like lessons, even though i am no pro, feel free to pm me and add me on msn.

its like asking me if selling an orange under the name of an apple would bother me :P to me a sig is not a sig unless it has some depth and feeling because the sig should represent the holder.

If you do just what your told to, means you're doing the bare minimum and not striving or attempting to better yourself or your work. If you do more than asked, you're more likely to be tipped a lot better, and people are more likely to come back to you, and recommend you to others.

Re: Copy and paste sigs

I think that lots of things depends on people that are looking for sigs. If they get satisfied with copy paste work, then such work will be put out of sig makers hands. It is a shop nevertheless. Sounds like, as long as i get paid, it works for me.

I must agree with you cjl, there are plenty of such work around here...

I pesonally have been using tuts in start, when i had will to learn new stuff. Atm, i am busy with everything else to do anymoe and just use what i have learned from those tuts and trying to put something decent together.

Re: Copy and paste sigs

I personally don't have a problem with copy and paste sigs. Let's face it, we all started somewhere. How will they ever learn? By being permitted to submit their sigs to contests and to sell them, they have motivation to get better.

I'm fully in favour of them, actually, because as long as people are making these sigs, a few of those people will be motivated to improve. It's what's keeping the GFX community alive, so be nice to them and, in fact, you shouldn't scold them at all. Give them advice, give them tips.

Really they just need to learn hwo to use the program they're workign with, so point these people in the direction of the gradient map function, or the unsharp mask, or whatever they need.

That's my piece.

Low quality sigs get under my skin as well. But I also agree with Murkar.

Re: Copy and paste sigs

I'm not sure any of you remember my sig shop before I left (well...we won't go there). I went to sGFX, DreamEvilConcepts, CodedFX, iGFX, dA and a host of other places where I learned to make much better sigs.

Here's one of my sigs from about 18 months ago (lol from page 49 of my photobucket). Just to show what I'm tlaking about...

And just for the halibut (get it?) here's another photo from like page 45 I found on my photobucket.

Re: Copy and paste sigs

I do agree with Murkar, but if said Artist doesn't strive to improve... they bring down the community as a whole, as far as quality, because they don't challenge the rest of us to improve. Long story short, if the market floods with Copy and Paste work, then the creativity will stagnate...
