How to get good at the game....

Okay so I have been playing the main server since December of 05 and I still have not gotten really good at this game. For years I have been signing on to train, buy weapons if needed, then bank left over naq, then sign off. Same routine every time I would sign in.

But I want to know if there is anything else that will get me better at this game so I can enjoy it much more. Everyone who is good or even if you're mediocre and know some tips please post, I would very much appreciate this, maybe some n0obs other me will look at this thread and get tips from you guys as well, so it's not just for me. I'm new to the forums but the game I have been in a long time and yet I still suck at it, I only have a 10 million army size in 4 years because I just started to raid last month more often than I usually do.

I just want to do what the top people do so I can be there as well.

Thanks

EDIT: I was also just playing the game and then eventually when I ascended, I ascended and so basically I think i was just playing to ascend but what is the good of ascending if you're not going to nothing with the upgrades? So I asked my self that question and said I want to be more involved.

How to get good...

there are several known routes..

- have a big mouth
- have little to no social life
- have a fast internet speed
- have less sense than money
- Do little to nothing in the way of fighting in the game itself so your account just get's uber..

generally any combination of 3 of the above will lead to what is, today considered as being 'good' at the game.

Re: How to get good at the game....

In a theoretical sense, Semper is correct.

However i would suggest that looking at the game mechanics, and the way most people in the "big" alliances play, Its nigh on impossible to be good in the game, due to the fact its all so easy, your literally spoon fed UU and Naq nowadays...

Re: How to get good at the game....

It never ceases to amaze me how many players there are who play the game for a long time without actually playing it, if that makes sense.

If you want to know what makes the best players the best, its simple, they are the most motivated. They spend the most in terms of time (or money in some cases) consistently for years. In my case my motivation comes from being in my alliance and having friends to play the game with. Though whether or not you would call me a "good" player is another question altogether...

I'm not sure if everyone else's tips are intended to be serious or not... but here is some advice you might find more useful.

Firstly, I noticed your ascension.... did you know that you lose pretty much everything from your account when you ascend? Your naq, your army, your covert levels, your UP.... basically everything except your MS and your Planets. If you grow to a fairly large sized army, you really dont want to lose that when you ascend, so it helps to have a friend you can broker your resources to before ascending, and then they can reject the broker or send the resources back afterwards, thereby cutting down your losses. Just a little tip there... Ascension is good, nice stat bonuses and better techs etc, but you dont want to throw away your account each time you ascend.

Your growth in game is mostly directly connected to the time you spend playing. Its true you can generate naq and uu every turn, but you will grow much faster by farming naq and uu. Judging by your post, you have been playing a very defensive game so far, keeping a low profile and staying out of trouble. Theres nothing wrong with that, but there are plenty of inactive accounts around that you can attack with little risk of retaliation. A good strategy is to spy on other accounts to get an idea at least of whether they are active or not. Generally speaking, if an account has close to 5k Attack turns (or more), a defence rating of 0, and 19 super defence units, its reasonable to assume they are inactive. If you dont have the time to spend on farming, maybe trading will work better for you. You can sell off your attack turns on the forum marketplace. People are generally buying Attack turns at a rate of 300-320bil naq per 1k AT's right now.

If you want better naq and uu when farming, you will probably need to go after active accounts. That means building up your strike and taking risks. You'll earn more and grow faster, but there is a much greater risk of retaliation and potentially losing what you have built. If you want to play that way, I would suggest you think about what you are prepared to risk before building your army. Miners and attack units are safe. Spies, Defenders, and all weapons are potential losses.

Most importantly, I think the way to be a 'good' player, is to get noticed. There is no graphical display as such for this game, and in a game dealing only with text, numbers and statistics, your best weapons are communication and psychology. Think about the kind of player you want to be, get on the forums, and represent that character in all that you do.

Most importantly, have fun!

Re: How to get good at the game....

If you really want to be "good" at the game, its fairly simple.

Play it like a game, don't take it to seriously. Learn to use all the turns you can lay your hands on. Farming inactives or actives either one. Start fighting wars, with anyone. Well over 50% of the people I have wared with I call friend. Many I still war with. Every battle try to learn something or improve something. Talk to as many people as you can.

When you get your butt handed to you, ask questions. When you whipp someone else, answer their questions. Become your own person and follow your own code, be what ever it may be. Just be true to yourself.

Don't be afraid of long term wars. Don't be afraid to submitt to defeat, and allow other to do the same. Respect is not taken, it is won or earned. We are all people, and we are all here for basicly the same reason. For interaction with others. Not always good, and not all that bad.

Just my feelings.

Thank you dude for the time and effort you put in to make an actual good, and only real response so far, I appreciate it. I don't mean to come off as rude or a [Jack], but I knew most of that ascension stuff, and I just started brokering my stuff to my other friend last ascension, I think I'm on my 6th one with about 150 more GnR points to go for my 7th one. I do raid now more often than I have before, I'm now addicted to buying uu from the marketplace forums lol, but I need naq to do that and yes you were right on the spot when you said I was a defensive player, I was very much so since 05 but I have been keep a steady 1900 rank so I can gain GnR points and still raid small players still. I can if I try be like a 1000-1200 ranked player being on defense. So I guess i have been missing out on a lot fun for years then huh?

Caprila is a good friend of mine and I go to her if I need help. But I don't like to bug her a lot as she has a life too, so I came on here for more info.

Yeah but I don't see the point of getting into war if I know I will get slaughtered and I can't just not take it seriously, I have been playing the game for so long that if I get destroyed from a war I would be mad because I have spent a lot of time building what I had build.

manage your account to minimize losses in massables, defenders, spies and even AC units.

loss is part of the game but how well you recover through account management makes a huge difference.

As long as you learn something new, there is always a point to a war. The greatest lesson I ever learned was to loose the fear of lossing stuff. I can farm more naq then can be farmed from me, and when I could raid I raided more UU then were raided from me. Heck, to me the Trading and commerce assciated with long term sustaind raiding and warring was the best part of the game. You meet so many people and its a challenge to grow, to make "wise" decisions when it comes to the use of your resources.

IDK what to tell you about being upset at losing years of work, I was once like that myself. Now its just something to pass the time, and I get massed daily. I always rebuild a defense, and my MS was dismantled all 3 days I was off PPT last week. I'm still growing faster then I'm killed. I'm still farming more naq then is taken from me. I'm still trading and making decisions as to where to use my resources and to what extent.

To me the game is just more enjoyable when you know there is a good chance you will wake up to 0 stats. I never liked picking targets out of a hat myself, I enjoy the fact I can war with people who ask for no quarter, and expect none to be given.
