This has got to be one of the most frequently asked questions...

They need to advance in rank, do some fighting, and wait at least a week I think.

ive been playing for over a week and ive attacked plenty of people but i stll cant get a commander what the hell is up with that! :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil:

Are you trying to be someones officer that isn't allowing new officers?

I could say something about 8 days and the incubation period for maggots... However I don't know anything about that.....
but I think it's safe to say there are at least a few flies (Native or tourist) hovering over this corpse.

Not sure about gatewars, but Quantum definately lets brand new players become officers, i know for a fact as my Quantum officer messaged me to join before he'd even made his account. I didn't use the link either to sign him up, he made his account after we talked via board PM's then i set myself as accpeting commanders and he joined right on turn 1.

Pretty sure gatewars is the same, you just need to find a commander who's set to accepting officers, that is probably why it's been failing.

BTW, if you want an officer spot i strongly advise posting on the recruitment forum, many players will be happy to accept a new player, they just want to be contacted 1st so it can be discussed and they are ready for it :)

in gate wars, you get to be able to have a commander when you accumiliate 1000 turns, exactly
