TGW Awards 2009 - Announcement

Right well! Sorry to keep all you trigger happy voters waiting. The time to throw up for your favourite persons is quickly running forward to be counted and this little community's answer to the Oscars is nearly here! (Can you contain the excitement! I know I can!)

The TGW Annual Awards 2009 will begin on Monday 25th of January 2010 at 02:30 Game Time.

The Categories will be as follows:

Community Awards:
Hall of Fame (and posthumous HoF entry)
Hero of the Year
Villain of the Year
Newcomer of the Year
Role Player of the Year
Best Stargate Race Player of the Year
Noob Moment of the Year

Game Awards:
Main Player of the Year
Diplomat of the Year
Alliance of the Year
Alliance Command of the Year
War of the Year
Warmonger of the Year
Best Ingame Fighter of the Year
Quantum Player of the Year
Origins Player of the Year
Chaos Player of the Year
Ascension Player of the Year
Trader of the Year

Forum Awards:
Poster of the Year
Sig of the Year
Sig Maker of the Year
Staff Member of the Year
Spammer of the Year (and all attached awards)

Your annual awards team this year will be: Tekki, Mordack, SuperSaiyan, Tetrismonkey, Sarajevo, Semper, Zeratul, Solus and Sammael.

I will leave this thread open for any further awards discussion from now until the end of the awards themselves. The awards categories will no longer be changing, so please do not seek to try and do so and do not try any petitions or any of that lol.

This is also the only awards discussion topic to be made outside of the awards section. Any other will be immediately moved to the dump by mods without warning.

There are no rules against supportive sigs, advertising why you think you should get an award in this thread or discussing why someone should not have an award, but keep it clean and don't turn into a hormonal hen party.

Further Notes:
The rules for categories and voting/nominating will be in the awards section on monday waiting for you. Each award will have a runner up and a winner except the hall of fame and the posthumous hall of fame. Each runner up/win will be accompanied by a signature of your choice, these will also be displayed in the awards section.

Ingame fighter of the year will be the champion of the Premiership League of the Grand Tournament which is being held in the GC. The first round is still going so you are still free to enter.

This has been done for several reasons. Due to the current spenders climate of the game I wanted the award to be given out as fairly as possible so a tournament needed to be made to find the player who truly deserved the title. This was done by placing rules that would restrict accounts to a level standard allowing players to compete with their natural skill alone, not the power of their accounts. It was the only fair way to truly determine the recipient of the award. At the time of posting the first round is still in progress so entry is still possible. The name isn't going to change, and nor is the award. Entry has been given almost four weeks, and the first round has had half that time so there is little excuse as to why someone could not compete to get the title.

The argument of everyone not competing is no different than an alliance exclusive voting for one of it's members which 90% of the game is guilty of, and in this case it's ultimately unavoidable if people don't choose to sign up and give up 10minutes per round. In human society not everyone always competes because not everyone always can, but none the less champions and 'the best' titles are given regardless in lots of official things from the Olympics to the world cup.
In advance, let me say from myself and the rest of the awards team good luck and may the best people win!

Semps.

Re: TGW Awards 2009 - Announcement

Why were debater of the year and different race awards removed? [-(

Also Moneybag of the year has a slighty negative connotation compared to Trader of the year, the former title (why the need to change it? :-s).

If I might add..

Noob Moment of the Year - bit useless

Game Awards:
Warmonger of the Year
Best Ingame Fighter of the Year - bit similar to each others...

Why not just call them "Champion of ..." and leave the "Best Ingame Fighter" as a voting category?

I mean, this Tournament is just but one event, while "best ingame fighter" award suggest it is for the one who proved their skills in the last year. Besides I can think of at least 5 players who would be serious candidates for the title and do not participate in the tournament for different reasons.

Lol...no.
The awards lost interesting awards and gained slighty useless ones as I said in my post. Awards have been "wet blanketed" so I don't see why I shouldn't give some "fun spoiling" back.

Right. Debater was removed because it didn't appeal to a wide enough audience, it's a good award on principle and may be brought back in later years.

Race awards were condensed to represent the massive decrease in their relevance over the past few years, we just couldn't justify having four separate awards for them anymore.

Trader of the year was meant to be on there, apologise I missed if off by accident. Moneybags of the year has no negative connotations, 99% of the game users recognise this is an era in the game as much about who can spend the most as it is who can work the most and that shouldn't be ignored.

Noob moment is meant to introduce some measure of humour to the awards with a 'golder raspberry' awards somewhat.

Warmonger and best ingame fighter are totally different things.

Because of the level of $$ spending ingame I viewed it as unfair to christen someone the best fighter from votes and nominations gained by a rep no doubt grown off an account potentially invested with 1000's of $$ that give them an undeniable 'unfair' advantage in a lot of fights. If you wanted the award you could go to the tournament and prove your metal on as equal a terms as you were going to get to show off any potential skill, and those terms were always up for debate, question and evolution.

Reasons for participating in the tournaments are their own, if they don't get a shot at the award it's their decision. It's a far sight better than say a massive alliance voting for one person when there might be 20 far obviously better candidates because everyone has a shot.

Only when you're good at it.

I provided valid arguments so far. Too few numbered races= not enough ground to make sufficient potential competitors for said awards for new races brought by custom races...

However, getting rid of race awards withdraws the goal and point to "raceplay", given now it's awarded with nothing (you can't call the new one a motivator, four merged in one=> most popular "raceplaying" player[s] will earn it without problems).
People often don't act/play for "free", if there's no reward, they won't be bothering. In this case, causing a drop into the "raceplay" activity, and as far as I know, this game is meant to be races oriented, whatever those are (but so far, it's stargate related races, not seen yet a massive "takeover" by non stargate races). ONE award for all of this isn't sufficient, this would logically cause a significant drop in races acts. An almost completly full move to "alliances-only" actions (outside of vendettas), making races almost completly useless...unless of course something is getting planned updates-wise, but I will not say more about it heh. 8) But there, it's not related to 2009 awards, anyway.

lol at the edit of your post.

Nope, it's better to argue! :P
Only when you're good at it.

I provided valid arguments so far. Too few numbered races= not enough ground to make sufficient potential competitors for said awards for new races brought by custom races...

Deal with it. Did you speak up when it was still up for debate? Yes, you did. Did your pleas get taken into account? Hell yes. Did the people say different things from what you said? HELL yes.
Good god man, learn to accept a "No" when you receive that as an answer. Quit nagging like a 50-year old woman.

lol, well no, not really, but still.. the fact that I edited almost instantly after posting, combined with this post of yours being half an hour later.. makes the comment that I edited my post RIDICULOUSly irrelevant. Don't act like you are stupid. You are not, but you do that imitation too well.

Ingame fighter of the year will be the champion of the Premiership League of the Grand Tournament which is being held in the GC. The first round is still going so you are still free to enter.

But there are many that I sure of who wern't able to partake in the 'tournament' when you had it set to start due to anything ranging from school, work, vac and etc...

Battles have been taking five - ten minutes minutes maybe (you have one per round, there are about 4 rounds)...the first round is still going and has been for two weeks, that's over 20,000 minutes (that's over 300 hours..). It's worked out at some people having less than one battle a week. Half the people that would want to participate that have not I have seen on msn and the forums in that time, time they could have used to fight and participate. 'Not having the time' for that... is absolutely and utterly your choice tbh...

At the same time, they don't postpone the world cup because David Beckham has a leg injury. ;) Someone going on vacation is no different really, I cannot change an entire competition to cater to the needs of one or two individuals.

There was also a week discussion before hand, long enough for anyone to farm/ppt the naq they need in advance. Also bumps the time people have had to sign up to about 30,000 minutes. Signing up and paying entry takes maybe 5minutes at absolutely maximum, not accounting for exceptional circumstances.

People can still sign up until the end of the first round... but I warn there are not many fights left until the end, so speed is of the essence. Entry cost's 1trill naq. You will need to be able to reduce your defence to 100bill and your MS from anything from 0 to it's max capacity (you can agree with your opponents to send MS's away) the rules are linked too in the GC thread.

----~----

The rules are in place to make it as fair and honest as humanly possible. You can always try and get your opponent to match your defence to equal yours if it's too high, if not.. get it massed down. I am sure plenty members of DDE or Rico's will happily mass it for free for you.

You have your answers...
If you want a shot at the title, sign up. If not - stop complaining. :smt023

Re: TGW Awards 2009 - Announcement

No one requests that you change the rules of that competition.

I just find the title "Best ingame fighter" misleading, as they won't be the best ingame fighter but just the winner of the competition.

I do not like the idea of linking the official annual awards to a private competition.

The point of the tournament is to discover the best ingame fighter though and have some fun, so yeah.. it's not misleading it's exactly shooting straight.

You can say, well not everyone took part or not everyone is witness to it or something else a long those lines... but that applies to every single award so we might as well just stop having annual awards right now.

On another note, not every single person participates in 'The Ultimate Fighter', yet someone is crowned 'The Ultimate fighter'.

Opening it to votes, allows a nice monopoly of bias to infiltrate what should be good awards. It also allows people to be mislead to believe someone a great fighter when all they have is a great account. Usually this is fine as it's nigh on unavoidable, in this instance we can actually determine an award as fairly as possible where someone who get's it has done so because they truly deserve it without question.
