So last night i was playing a different game, and i was talking to someone who used to play this game, they have been on perma vac mode for nearly a year now, and i asked them if they would come back, there reply was basically "why"
And it got me thinking why indeed, really the game has gotten to a stalemate point, wars are pointless, it doesnt matter who they are, 100 vs 100 , or 1 vs 100, it always ends the same way, stalemate, or it becomes never ending, or ends up with no party with stats, and all of smacktalk on the forums.
$$ spenders in this game ( and personally i have nothing against it, if that person makes enough money IRL to spend it on an online game so be it, other people spend money on pointless things too ) but basically you cannot compete against a $$ player, anything you destroy they buy back, if you beat them down they spend even more to come back stronger, this then leaves them with 2 problems, 1 they basically buy there way out of the game as there so powerful its pointless to hit them, and 2 they start to bully others because they know they can.
So really what reason is there to keep playing, personally ill be on vac mode soon as Christmas it ultra busy for me at work and i will have little to no time at all, makes me think if i got the right price i may not come back at all...
There are some that have big ego's so really when you look past that, why do you really still play this game?????

Why do you still play
Deep within Noob Cave, you find a strange pool filled with a glowing blue liquid. You think back to what your mother told you about unfamiliar liquids found in caves.
You're pretty sure she said "Drink it! What's the worst that can happen?"

2 of my friends quit this week because of players ego's on good farming hits/
seriously how can a person/alliance complain about a 300-500bil naq hit when they have barely a defense to back it up.
i might just quit soon because of it.

Re: Why do you still play
I'm personally on vacation mode since late August when I spent a weekend in Roma, Italy.
I'm thinking about coming back some day, but for now I'm not. I've not really quit the game, let's say I'm on a "hiatus".
They complain just for the sake of complaining, like many people do in real life.

Don't care much for the game itself, never have.
It's always been about the social side of it. Made some wonderful friends from many areas of the world. (some from places I never knew existed before I started playing).

Re: Why do you still play
From what I can tell, I seem to enjoy trying to come up with the perfect composition for my account (mostly in terms of calculating the cost to benefit of planets). I tend to always be running numbers and I enjoy farming/raiding on this game.
I really enjoy thinking about and creating game suggestions and balancing them out in them game. and I enjoy discussing them with people.
If you focus on how you can't keep up/catch up to $$ spenders or people who can play 24/7, then of course your going to get discouraged. If you focus on how a good 4 million raid spree feels, and suddenly the game can become much more enjoyable for even a casual player.

Re: Why do you still play
I started to play few other games, and all are more fun now than GW.
Why am still playing GW? Why not. I like the game and have lot of free time between work. And other games are limited, players cant create ATs for money, so you cant spend 24/7 hours online. Whta woul I do with the rest of my free time?

Re: Why do you still play
and if you know how to mass old style then it makes it fun it may not be as profitable as sabbing but why win something quickly and lose less and not have any fun doing it then lose a bit more and have a ball massing.
personally ive loved massing since ODJI taught me its changed my career and will never get old if you find this game boring then u should try massing old school instead of pressing the sabb button which is old ment to kill a few weps to allow you to finish with some normal 1-15 AT massing as massing is to easy anyways
thats why i stil play.

Re: Why do you still play
I can think of three reasons off the top of my head:
1: Habit - self-explainatory
2: Friends and the community - its always fun to see what's happening on the political side, be it in my alliance or in the "universe" at large
3: Because I'm me: I want to see what I can do, given the same start as anyone else, I want to see where I fall in the dog pile, even if its not on top. For the same reasons I also try to improve myself and my account (usually not with cash though, I feel that the effort you expend should count for more than the money in your pocket)

Re: Why do you still play
I play coz i like the community, i made many friends in game and i like talking to them.
I also like the diplo/war/peace balance thing.
I have a great account, worked hard as hell for it but spend some $ aswell.
I like that im not the biggest or baddest coz then i could just sit on everyone, i need the balance to make a good player and that is a though task to master.
