A lot of alliances disbanded, a lot of people left.

Ain't that true? We need to have a serious discussion with jason, the game is getting really boring for some of the players.

Also, i think that Jason should give us the updates that we write in the suggestions sections, not some crappy updates that he wants.

Re: A lot of alliances disbanded, a lot of people left.

Everything has to go sometime... life is just one big closing down sale.

I just feel sorry for the fellows who either didn't get their shot at enjoying the top or just generally missed the games golden years (2005-2008). Well I don't feel sorry..more i'll just happily gloat. :-D

There is nothing short of getting back the permissions to use Stargate (not that we had them to begin with) or a heavy investment of cash to upgrade well..everything.. that will get this game back to a good standard, it just needs too much work and I wouldn't trust 99% of you users to come up with good updates as far as I could throw you. 400 or so players now... 500 this time last year.. give it two/three more years and there will be 150 or so of you. It might reach a decade with a hardcore centre of 50 or so players but this thing is just an echo going out.

Re: A lot of alliances disbanded, a lot of people left.

Behind Probally EtL and a few other names, Im one of the most qualified GateWars Veterans... and i have this to say about the state of the game ...

... Changes Happen, Things Evolve, Survival of the fittest. Kill or Be Killed. If you cant keep up with the game, then get in with people who can...

..There is no use in complaining, this is jason's game, he must be doing something right, 5+ years later its still standing and still makeing money... His updates are thought out over a period of months, they are fine tuned, then tuned again. If every update that every player wanted was implemented, then we would have a helluva screwed up game, and there would probally be no attack button! (Granted Some updates suck, but alot of well thought through plans in history , with hindsight, seem rather stupid now)

I personally still believe this game has to reach its highest peak, recent updates have got people into ascended again, the game is off hilter and unbalanced, no futures are certain and noone is safe.

Roll with the times my friends, or get left behind. Mayhem have suffered the fate of not adapting to game changes. Lest we forget.

Re: A lot of alliances disbanded, a lot of people left.

Okay, I hate all this rose-tinted garbage - the game mechanics SUCKED in 05. There was no way to kill covert = people could sit with no def, a massive strike and covert and be COMPLETELY UNTOUCHABLE. There was no raiding, thus the only way to grow was UP = new players would NEVER catch up with older players.

Then the game went even further downhill - ascensions, unlimited growth, unlimited ATs, too few losses on massing, MS and Planets became too powerful - it made the game unwinnable; people didn't care what they lost, and a single player could MASS AN ENTIRE ALLIANCE.

The game has moved forward in many ways. Jason listened at some of the more recent updates - yes he kept Houses, because that was his pet project, BUT, he made it more expensive to mass, made covert more integral again, made MS and planets more complimentary than necessary - the game is MORE BALANCED than it has EVER BEEN.

The game mechanics are not the problem. Yes players have left, and yes alliances have disbanded. But look at what has taken their place - there are players now playing who can't even remember Elusive or Esker or STI, but have now become the biggest names themselves. Sure some alliances have fallen by the wayside, TO for example, but look at the rise of others, Ricos for example.

Yes, there is a net balance of loss, but the game is still vibrant. It has stood the test of time - through the new car smell, past the honeymoon period, and it is still here during the marriage fights. A few shakeups of alliances and power ingame and a concerted recruitment drive (which Jason definitely needs to look into) and this game will be the most exciting its ever been....

John D. Rockefeller wrote:and now a larger player can sit with not even titanic stats, mass an entire group much smaller than them with no threat of retaliation.

When massing was cheap, smaller players could at least fight back. Now it costs so much they have to sacrifice everything just to make an attempt to mass down a larger player. I hardly call it balanced.

But when massing was cheap, that happened all day, everyday. Now it only happens occasionally, and even then is roundly condemned.

It shouldn't be easy for a tiny player to mass an Unknown who has spent 5 years upgrading his account - but it should be (and is) possible for that group to fight back and show the community they won't take it lying down ;)

Re: A lot of alliances disbanded, a lot of people left.

I think your optimism is misplaced Jayne. Those past years were the most active they were the chaotic years before order which is what made them the best, the golden years...when it was Stargate based. Now what? We have nothing but the fringes of a collapsed system that's trying to repair itself.

There is no selling point for this game.. it's main aspects (a large user base, an active interested admin, stargate related) they've all gone.

The problem hasn't been the community for some time now.. they've all finally started to mature against the flawed system and Jason has implemented updates.

But if I was new and I came here now..why would I stay? So I can waste money? So I can try and work my ass off to reach the top and see my achievements squandered by $$ spending? So I can enter a well developed world that feeds the imagination? There is no story.. there is no attraction. Those who are here are here for friends or pure boredom, they're here to make the legend of Esker and STI their own but they wont succeed... because without more than the bare minimum walking through that door into the game then death is inevitable and all the good thoughts and positive outlooks you can all sport wont save it.. because if they attracted people then I tell you now a lot more businesses wouldn't have tanked in the recession.

Re: A lot of alliances disbanded, a lot of people left.

yeh this game is bad now with massing but remember how useless defenses where seriously all that needed to be done was make defense weapons a bit stronger and no get damaged so easily and a small increase in cov thats all.........

no we have houses which i doubt anyone likes 100%

and the fact that it is impossible to mass a 50T def and 150T cov at all without shelling your account in and attempt to bring it down...... :smt010

i think covert and defenses need the "Tuned a bit more" and make stats a few % less effective lol....

Yes. It is a wonderful piece of free comic relief around here.

Who knows.. it might finally make the $$ spending market collapse or at least reinvent itself and regulate better.

Re: A lot of alliances disbanded, a lot of people left.

I agree with Semper about the "interestingness"/"appeal factor" of sgw, being rather absent nowadays. It lacks one: it has almost no graphics (an issue in my opinion), also lacks an identity (ie: custom races not really good for the game identity)...

I admit that from my early-2005-player point of view, some alliances I was part of disbanded, many people I knew in this game left, some still visit forums from time to time, some disappeared completly (Come back plz Johanna :( ) and few came back.
And well, a handful, like me, are hostages of their connection problems related to sgw/Sgaw problems with having no issue with almost any other site they might visit.. :-k
