Does your mothership assist in any way in the defense of your planets? (i.e. shields, fleets, etc.)

(If this has been answered anywhere else, it is hidden very well. My searches have turned up nothing useful.)

This has been a suggested update before (several times).
It is quite possible the question itself was never asked.

No, although it has been suggested that motherships could be assigned to planets, nothing has been decided as of yet.
