I'm looking for players for a game of VGA Planets

I first played VGA Planets pre-internet, we hosted games in school and players would hand over turn files on 3.5'' floppy discs, when the internet appeared so did dozens on online host sites, and now 20 years on the game is still going........ THATS HOW GOOD IT IS !!

VGA Planets is turn based game for 11 players at a time, each players taking on one of the 11 races each with their own special abilities/advantages/shiplists. You start with one planet, one starbase and 2 ships, you see a starmap with many other planets at various distances, you then colonise these other planets by flying your ships to them with colonists onboard, build factories for supplies, tax populations for money, mine planets for minerals, use the minerals and money to build more starbases, and build ships of various designs at the starbases assembling fleets of everything from cargo ships to scouts vessels and battleships. Seek out the other races on the starmap, scout them, trade with them ( swapping ships / tech / minerals / money ), ally with them ( share maps or fight common enemies ) or go to war with them ( conquering their planets, taking their resources, engaging their ships in ship to ship combat with different techs of beam weapons, torpedo's and fightercraft ). A huge variety of gaming strategy and options. Game setups vary with addons, different end conditions ( Taking enemies homeworlds, domination, inhalation, by points scored in battle, by resources accumulated, etc ). Games can last indefinitely ( I seen some run to 600 turns ) but most set time limits like 100 or 200 turns, turn frequency cant be anything from 1-7 times a week. That may not sound like much but as your empire expands with more planets to run and more ships to control the turns can take an hour to make, and you may want time to confer with allied or look up sims/advice pages when making a turn. Most games start with a high frequency of turns and decrease to a couple a week as the game progresses to give players more time. This is a strategy game so dont expect graphics, their are pictures of the planets, ships, races, the starmap is 2D, and their is a combat screen where you see your ships fighting but it's all strategy not online action or pretty video. Also a warning, the addicts of this game sometimes play 3 or 4 games at once because they cant wait to try all the races and different versions, and people like me take years off only to return and play again, once your hooked, your hooked lol

The full game you have to buy ( very cheap )

BUT

You can play the simple shareware version for free, the various internet hosts of these game all run free, there is not $$$$ black market and no ingame advantages can be bought from the hosts. $$$ have no place in this game. Multi's dont exist in this game.


I have asked the host of the site ware I play to run a Shareware game setup, he has agreed if I can find 11 players to sign up for the game ( Most Planets players own the game so shareware setups are not very common ).


Google VGA Planets 3.5 to find far better descriptions than I have given, screenshots, hosts, strategy/advice pages etc

This game will not interfere with your other gaming, you make you turns in your own time, and it costs nothing to give it ago.


PM me if you want to join and I will tell you what host site I recommend and will get that host to setup a game for SGW people. Or just pick a host and try it by yourself if you prefer. Friends and enemies welcome, I will join the shareware game if you want, or stay out and just answer questions of all in the first game so no one has any advantage while learning.




@ Mods, this is not an advert to sell anything, I gain nothing, playing the game costs nothing. As we have a PS3/XBL/PC gaming thread giving Id's, and discussions on other games everyone has heard of, I just inviting people play and give this great classic game a go. Fight / ally with their SGW friends / foes in a different environment.
