revoke mods ?

do you think that is enough people, voted to have a mod removed from their duty, for whatever reason, they should be able to

i mean ... it would keep them on the top of their job right,

Re: revoke mods ?

I don't think there is anything preventing users from requesting a mod removal or a mod review. But it needs to be done professionally with substantive reason for a removal. if it's done in a professional and respectful manner then i believe it's something that can be done.

However, a case based on number of users won't guarantee a removal, it's all based on substance of the reasons.

That's my opinion anyway.

Re: revoke mods ?

No.

However. If people cannot solve their issues with a moderator through the normal channel, you end up at Psyko and I, the Ombudsmen. ;) If there are legitimate complaints, go to either their section head or the Administration; see if you can solve your issues there.

Since moderators are not elected, there should be no 'voting out'.

(Also; move this to forum issues pl0x?)

Re: revoke mods ?

Apart form a missing line in the topic: "Leave your pitchforks and torches at the door" :-D

I think its not something up to debate for the community members.
If the other mods and or admins dont see the problems, then there is no chance of a debate helping anything.

I think community members just need to make sure that if they have problems with mods they need to make themselfs heard in the propper sections.
If enough topics arise on cetain mods, then it should be obvious to the rest of the mod team, and they should point it out to them amoungst themselfs and work on it.

And something tells me this already happens behind closed doors, as it should be.

Re: revoke mods ?

Just to add to this, if people were allowed to vote for a mod removal it would do nothing to keep me (personally) on top of my job. I'm already on top of my job. It seems as if you feel that having a vote to remove system would scaremonger the staff, sadly you are wrong.

The fact that you have no complaints in the relevant section about any particular staff (from my memory) you don't actually have any real substance to warrant a removal.

Re: revoke mods ?

im not trying to have anyone removed atm, just mearly puttin it out there to see what the pros and cons are.

ive had 1 particular case that i took to the ombusman, and it was a complete waste of time, despite having evidence and a mod agreein it was sketchy,

giving some power back to the community cant be a bad thing, as they are the people who keep the forum going

Pros:
1) It will air potential issues with staff, although we already have a system for that, so hardly a new pro.

Cons:
1) Users within community gang up to vote someone off the mod team (this includes users jumping on the bandwagon for the lulz)
2) It diverts the course of going through the Ombudsman as a first point of call

Can't really think of any pros and cons right now.

Guild wrote:ive had 1 particular case that i took to the ombusman, and it was a complete waste of time, despite having evidence and a mod agreein it was sketchy,
It may have been a waste of time in your eyes. Why would it be a waste of time in your eyes? Because the result you got was not the one you wanted. All mods have different opinions, but becasue you had 1 mod agree it was sketchy doesn't mean that you were right in whatever case it was.

Guild wrote:giving some power back to the community cant be a bad thing, as they are the people who keep the forum going
The users are not the only people keeping the forum going. If all the admins and mods on this forum were to leave for a week this forum would become a mess, why? because some users would take advantage of the situation, and not to mention the number of spam bots that would roam this place and spam your threads. And it wouldn't be the sort of spam that spammers within this community would like.

The community would gradually give up on this forum without staff keeping it going and it would eventually die slowly.

Giving some power back to the community? The community already have some power, but then I guess that depends on what your perception of power is and how much you think users hsould have of it.

I do understand why you think this sort of system should be brought in, but in the end it wouldn't do any good to anything in my honest opinion. And i'd say that as a user even if i wasn't a mod.

Re: revoke mods ?

I don't see why not, we have had petitions in the past to reinstate mods that were removed from their positions.. (Deni and Jack come to mind)

though yes the votes can be stacked, an alliance/empire could vote to get someone from the enemy side removed. And a certain Ombusperson would have been permabanned if forum users of the day had had such powers/rights.

Section Admins - who will be 'in charge' of the section in question. They will be responsible for the overall feel of the section, the setup/structure, and most importantly the community/users in the section. This will incorporate the old 'ombudsman' role. And insofar as the Section Admin is responsible for the users, they are also responsible for the high level mod behaviour towards the users.
So -as a user - if you have an issue with how you are treated, rules, bans, whatever --goto the section admin... They are there for you!

There is no 'reporting structure' in this setup -- tech, mod, and section admins are all on equal footing, each with their own (somewhat overlapping) responsibilities.
Mods report directly to the mod admin, and indirectly to the section admin for the section in which they mod.

Re: revoke mods ?

No, should not happen.

Admins are responsible for forum staffing, the users should have no part.

If enough users have a problem with a Mod that would there be a mechanism such as voting them out, that there would be enough votes to vote said Mod out, then obviously there is a problem and it will be solved.

It's true, Tetris whined and whined and whined to get me removed, but failed. Mostly because all his claims were **Filtered**. :-D

Voting would not work as many would vote against a mod just because they don't like them, regardless of how well they do their job.

If enough users complain about a mod, I'm fairly sure the admin team will take a look at said mod, and see if they are fulfilling their duties as a mod, and whether they are satisfactory.

You know at one point I think it was just Tetris and Jack going back and forth for like 5 pages with Jack giving the same silly little response over and over (I think it was him answering "Santa Claus" as to who ordered Jack to do something he did) with Tetris just saying "answer the question" every time Jack replied.

Happy reading!
