full reset VS no reset, a compromise??

I would hate the idea of a total reset of SGW. But then again, no reset could be worse.

Keep in mind these may be bad examples, but it sure beats losing everything! It beats feeding more power to the big ones and driving away new players because they dont stand a chance! I suggest random, stargate themed occurrences that happen to level the field. To shake it up!

ancient plague "all players loose 5% of their untrained units?" This could be configured different ways, maybe starting at 15% for the top tens and falling to five in the 3000's?

Jaffa revolt- "Goa'uld players lose 5% untrained, lose 5% of their offensive weapons in the war to quell the uprising"

Some examples. Maybe the race related ones could be too personal. I could see players crying "favorite picker" to forum even though it would be a random occurrence. But there has to be ways to randomly level the playing field every now and then. Even if you do not like the examples I have given think about the concept. Because once again, it beats complete loss and scaring away the newbies.

I like the random occurance idea. It'd be fairly realistic, since there's always some random occurance that is never predicted for..
It's true that some would be annoyed if they woke up and found they were one of the 25% who lost a lot because of some race destroying occurance, but thats life.
It would add a cool twist to the game...

And just to make this known, I hate the idea of a total reset.

My thoughts exactly. It would please both camps: the weak (they could have a chance to grow and build for a goal) and the strong (their work and months of devotion were not ruined) in this light, it would be the most beneficial thing for the server. BC I hate both total reset and no reset. This is the middle ground. A stargate themed random universe affecting situation would make it more exciting.

I think if race related "universal diasasters" occur, they should affect the races with the most realms in power, to take a slight edge off the winning team. They wouldn't be crippling or two devastating!!! The idea would be to make it interesting and open the door for runners up to advance.
That is if there is never a reset.

I can see it now:

The Aschen have attempted to launch a campain. They bring 3 ships to your planet, and you forces wipe them out. You have lost 200 untrained units and your weapons have taken 200 damage each. However, you now have 3 Infected Aschen Motherships. :)

Depends on the size of their destruction!
A big one, every six months. This one would affect everyone. But big could simply mean bigger than the smaller ones which should happen once a month?

Nodot: Did you accidentally post this here? I noticed the motherships thread above this one.

No, I meant to post it here. The last sentence is me being silly.

I like the idea of say monthly random events which could stir up the universe with a full reset every so often. The game gets stale otherwise and only tends to make the strong even more powerful.

id like the idea of a "partial reset". i mean like u dont lose all ur units but maybe some and some of ur naq and weapons but not like 100% start over

This would effectively stir a souring, truly infinite universe. Especially if we the majority is against full reset. I can see it now:

"Clans apon clans jump into battle, the current misfortunes suffered by their enemy have weakened their defense and unit production. Handfulls of players take advantage of the situation while the time is right! Effectively starting a galactic war"

This is another way to look at the partial reset. Taking it that every race, unit, covert upgrade etc will have its turn, there will be no such thing as "favorites" To quote an old game update: "The universe doesn't care- It just is!!" Everyone will suffer these minimal losses occasionally, they are just waiting for chaos to call their number!!

On earth: tsunamis, earthquakes, tornadoes, the game should have its own unfortunate diasasters. Names would be made and lost in the confusion.

I don't agree Saturine most of the players in the top 25 and i'am in that on both servers worked hard to get there and were playing for a long time why should we be punished for being good???
I say total reset everyone at the same time and everything starts from scratch again .

Also I think a full reset is required for alot of other suggestions to be implemented. I think the reset will be necessary, not only to prevent the game becoming stagnant, but for improvements that most people have called for.
