Yet another complaint to be passed on

Let me first start by establishing a fact - SGW turns a profit, and people in turn profit from it. if it weren't so, we wouldn't have people selling accounts for hideous amounts of money, and UU for stupid amounts of money instead. Why am I bringing it to your attention that SGW in conjunction with chaos and quantum makes money? Just remember it for now ok?

Over the past six months, I've witness people have their accounts hacked on three seperate occassions, one of which was my own; My fleets were sold off, my weapons as well as UU sent somewhere. Don't know where, and I certainly don't know how they hacked my account because I don't use dictionary standard words.

Now we come to bryan; since this whole j1mbo debacle, he's had his account hacked and wrecked twice that I've heard of now, and today I learn that a DDII member has not only had his account completely raped, but deleted as well. When you consider that members pay for support status over and over again into SGW, that Chaos brings in a fair sum of money, and I dare say Ascension eventually will...Does it not justify Administration to put current upgrades on hold and plugging the problems with the system that there currently are before creating new ones? Where is the improved log in system we were told we would see; I expressed to admin about three to four months ago now that I have a great deal of difficulty seeing the dice for the log in, to the point that I have to use the magnifying glass; he told me he would insert a readout system.

I have seen no such thing yet. We have seen nothing except the disappearance of ostracised accounts in terms of getting rid of multi accounts, not to mention we've even seen people ADMIT to having multiple accounts on forum on a few occasions. do these people suffer any consequences? do they lose their accounts? No. Instead game mod and admin choose to ignore the people they KNOW are cheating in favour of persecuting innocent people like Bryan as an example.

The principle is simple; in order for a game to be fun, it must be fair and you as a player should know your personal data is safeguarded; have you considered that considering the apparent ease these hackers have in accessing our account, how easy is it for them to exploit the system and gain personal data like credit card information from those of you who pay directly by credit card?

I ask admin, or reality or psi to, on behalf of the SGW gaming community to urge Jason to improve upon the existing SGW before concerning themselves with its extensions so that we can all play in a fair environment free from unscrupulous elements.

Sacrificing liberty for security is what we must do. :)
However, that security must be truly secure, and not a promise of security.

I agree with you Ikon, generally.

as far as i can tell it's a matter of priorities. I'm not sure how many people are playing chaos, but the fact that the only ones who got ahead first were those that cheated by using tamper data really pisses me off. That's part of the reason I refuse to play anymore, and I will not be re-upping with this next reset.

Furthermore, yes security is a big deal for me. I keep hearing over and over again about people being hacked, and I'm becoming more and more concerned that it's not the user's fault, but rather a hole in the server and program. I too would like to urge those in charge to please re-prioritize when security has been compromised. I know other games are hard to put on hold once your train of thought has commenced, however, for our peace of mind, I would feel better knowing our concerns are being addressed with the utmost urgency and diligence.

Thanks for posting your thoughts ikon, I was going to be posting something to this effect later today with a poll asking what the sgw community would prefer to see happen first, security or chao-reset/ascension-upgrade

Most of the people that get hacked in this game isn't really someone hacking the game so don't blame admin most of the "hacks" is someone using a little no how to con you out of info in msn convos. I mean who really remembers what they used has their I forgot my password question. if you know that and find out their birthday you can easily get into their hotmail account push the forget pw on stargate and boom access to your account.

Did you read what saber said? He said that most of the time that it is not the server being hacked, but the lack of precaution being taken by the owner of the account.

iKon, I agree though that we need to have a better security system in place to stop the few that actually hack the server.

It does not matter if Bryan is on a government server. It would not matter if he was on a Government server or not, his email is still a gmail account. So his info could of been stolen. Plus the government server still does not matter since TGW is not ran on a government server. Since his TGW account was hacked it has nothing to do with a government server.

Plus what I said was that not all cases of hacking are actually hacking. So please read my post carefully before you reply. I never said anything about certain cases, I just pretty much said that NOT ALL CASES OF HACKING ARE HACKING. THE CASES THAT ARE ACTUAL HACKING NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED TO SEE WHY THE STARGATEWARS SERVER WAS HACKED. I am not yelling, I just want to stress what I said, so it can not be misinterpreted.

I know you feel people are being conned out of their info, and it's easy to shift the blame to the user, but I can assure you in a good number of these cases, the user never let their information out. You may not believe me on this, but I am very familiar with what bryan did (with respect to emails and passwords), when he did it, and when he was hacked. There is NO way at least in his case that he gave his information away each time (on different computers).

I hope I'm not coming across as disrespectful to anyone, but this is a real issue, and I'm tired of everyone (even admin), assuming the problems are occurring every time because the user screwed up.

I know not all hacks are user related. That is why I said that the Administrator needs to investigate the site and seal up any possible way to hack the server. We need security for the cases that actually are server based. For the people careless enough to give out sensitive information, oh well.

Tamper data was allowed this wave on chaos, but since the boxes will be larger next wave, it wont be likely that it will then...

IF tamper was ok, then why were the first few hack jobs using erased from the market? My memory is good enough to remember admin allowing it after it awhile because there were too many to stop. Furthermore, cheating, is something that gives one play an unfair advantage over other players, in that case, tamper did just that.

You know there are many fields in regular sgw where tamper works as well, but if you're caught using it... let's just say I'd hate to have had a lot invested in that account.

Granted, now that I've said that, this thread is not about Chaos and what was allowed and not allowed, it's about prioritizing fixing holes in the code that are allowing others to gain undue access to other people's account over secondary game resets and upgrades.
