I had made a broker with another person (uu for $50 USS) but it didn't accept it automatically after I'd bought the USS, and it wouldn't let me accept the deal.
The person still got the bonuses, and we remade the deal purely for uu - which worked fine. But the initial trade (of uu for $50 USS) should have worked.
