I think that next to everyones name there should be a light showing if the person is online or not. Also so u know if ur officers or ur commander is online so u can talk to them if u need an imediate answer

The reason it's a good idea.
Is because people can messege you in-game when you're actually online.
And better coordinate when transfering units, naq and turns.
The reason it's a bad idea.
Is because it allows people to abuse an aspect of the game, by knowing when it is 'ok' to hit and farm someone.
And take advantage of many people whose only safe guard is that their enemies don't know whether or not they are online.

Greetings
Actualy you could modifiy this idea so that it works within the game concepts, for instance, on spy missions one of the report lines besides troops, armaments, etc, could be if the Base commander/Owner ( your friend or whoever your spying on ) is on planet, off planet, or reported missing... this opens up possibilities and its realistic.
Missing would be like if thier not been around for a period of 24-48 hourse or perhaps a whole week while off planet means they logged in with in the last day or so, and on planet is theyve been logged in within the past hour or so. And it would be something realistic that would be reported in most sg1 mission reports or any espionage report.
of oucrs the way for allies to check if thier own is perhaps somesort of light or some chat option as you guys have suggested.

lol Why?
I think it would take out a certain enjoyment of a few aspects.
The wonder if you just stole somebody's new spy level, or if they just got through attacking... or perhaps it was simple income. The joy of of that surprise message where they curse you, or praise you for swooping and stealing their sold weapons...
And that's just one aspect. This would completely kill the fun in mass attacking... and it would eliminate some of the protection the mystery of the online status gives. I mean, when you mass somebody, you do research on where they live, study their banking schedule, wake up at akward times, and crush them in their sleep... and even then you have to wonder "Are they there? Will this be pointless?"
An 'online light' would kill too much for minor enjoyment... that is what I think.

*Agrees*

As soon as you build an idiot proof system, somebody else builds a better idiot.
If it moves, kill it. If it doesn't move, kick it until it does move, and then kill it.
