I'm not sure exactly what you mean... I think AT's are very physical. You can't expect soldiers to be constantly active-they can only perform so much in any given time (3 AT's per turn). To have them perform more you have to expend your own resources (naq or uu) to pay them overtime wages (ok, a bad analogy but I think it gets my point across).
I don't think it's silly at all to trade them in the market-they are arguably the most valuable resource since you can't do much at all without them. If all your enemies warriors are too tired to fight he can't attack you.
I think this is a great idea-however I'd put limits on it-otherwise a big player, or a rich alliance could simply buy AT's to use to destroy an alliance AT's and farm them with no fear of retribution.
