Re: How about a "sleep" mode?!

there is one other option you can do and thats go into pergatory.

That will hinder your raiding/farming, but then again, farms and raids are better there so you might do alright with fewer turns.

With turns more limited, people tend to be more careful of who they farm and for what amount. I don't know for sure as I have never gone to pergatory.

Another option is you should also keep a reserve supply of naq and UU to repair your defense.

Re: How about a "sleep" mode?!

Never been? It can be fun, at least makes for a change of scenery... I've been in and out a few times... Getting cut off from the market's a nuisance. Cost of getting OUT's a pita. Being unable to communicate with your co or officers is a pita. Come to think of it the whole perg idea's a pita.

If there were *reasonable* limits as to exactly how far below you, you could do damage in theory pergatory wouldn't even be necessary. The fact that being reduced to a shell by somebody 40 or 50 times your power is even *possible*, whilst a huge majority of people don't take advantage of it, is one of the things that makes pergatory necessary.

Which is basically what this thread is about. Fine tuning the imbalance, not detracting from or changing the way most reasonable people play the game.

Re: How about a "sleep" mode?!

Nox protection wasnt introduced to completely prevent someone from taking out your defense.. what it does do is limit the amount of damage someone can do after your defense is gone.. ie.. if they take 30 attacks to take your defense outs(using 15 attack turns at a time) then they only have 12 more attacks they can use to kill your spies before you are phased and become unattackable. They then have to wait till the next game turn before they can attack again and then its only 4-5 times before you phase again. It is really useful in war time because it allows you the time to repair your defense while someone is attacking you..(7 second delay between attacks) In this case, if you repair your defense weapons once or twice while on nox then you should phase out before your weapons are completely gone.
Most people have long used the realm alert to adjust their income level when going offline. It has other benefits but that is the easiest way to keep someone from farming you while offline. To me, setting critical was my way of turning on a "sleep mode" for a long time.

Re: How about a "sleep" mode?!

All valid points.

However, we're getting totally off topic.

The point of the topic was I was trying to dream up ideas to discourage/disable people with a 20 : 1 power ratio (arbitrary figure) from being able to spoil the game and cause players to give up.

You've been playing for a few months. You've built up a few hundred billion stats. You've been in a few wars, been knocked down, got back up again. You've trained yourself. You try new tactics. Win a few fights. Lose a few fights. Get in some more wars. You're enjoying the game.

The some a-hole you've never so much as *looked at* the wrong way, with enough power to strike down you and ten more like you, starts on you. Then he'll ridicule your def. He'll get you so annoyed you strike back, however much it is like a mosquito attacking an elephant. You haven't been outplayed, out thought, outsmarted, outmaneuvered. With the skill of an ape with a club trying to perform brain surgery on an ant, you've simply been squished.

Okay... hands up how many people don't mind starting from shell after a good scrap/war? ooohhh... Pretty much unanimous then...

Hands up how many people have farmed the wrong player, with the wrong co, and suddenly found himself with no weapons and no hint in the log (but a pretty easy guess) who sabbed them. Shrug your shoulders, have a laugh at your own stupidity, start building again. Plenty of hands there...

Hands up how many people don't mind starting from shell after a baboon with a nuke takes your 6 months of hard work out in 10 minutes? What, no takers? Why, there's a surprise...

Fortunately, there are only a few baboons with nukes. Unfortunately, there are a few baboons with nukes.

I agree, by the way, that the white flag was a stupid idea. But we still need to address this issue, somehow.

I'd even settle for a "council of elders" with a bankroll. They'd review complaints, refund cases of abuse, and penalise the baboon. Probably 99% of players could forget it even exists, get on with their lives, and enjoy the game. The 1% who are using their experience/power (which would be okay if they'd stay in their own arena!), will think again. Problem solved.

Don't believe it happens? Ok, pick any (non ascended) active player on page 100 and watch how fast I can put him on page 2340. Of course, you wouldn't want such a demonstration. And I'd never do it. THAT'S THE POINT. Some would, for reasons unknown to me.

Re: How about a "sleep" mode?!

sounds like a bunch of whining to me ....

look its a game of war built and designed so stronger players can attack smaller players, regardless of your deffense if u have naq and someone wants it bad enough they WILL take it...

and farming 5 bill with a few strike planets minimizes the farmer loss(yes even at 100 bill deffnese) so it is cost effective to farm 5 bill ...u have 6 options as i see it

1) build a bigger deffense

2) go on nox and crit to minimize the damage when u are hit

4) build a bigger covert (people usually dont hit what they cant see)

5) go to perg (you may not like being cut off ...but it is an option with benefits and downfalls)

6) be more like the bigger players and wake your lazy butt up in the middle of the night and bank so u dont have too much naq out to be farmed in the first place...

end of story now quit whinning a

Bob_2007 wrote:Set "sleep" mode, and you can't be attacked. Nor would you be able to do anything for the duration. Make it maximum once per 24 hours, minimum 4 hours duration before you could "wake" it manually, automatically "wakes" after 8 hours. Bit like vacation, really, except much shorter and your production would continue.

Havent read the thread, so probably been said before, but if you dont want to generate so much naq while asleep, what's wrong with using realm alert level?
