This is true, many in society have deemed it offensive.

Re: Is the word "hell" considered a curse word? READ THEN VOTE!

With a lot of words, it is the context in which the word is used, and not the word itself, which is offensive or considered cursing - and 'Hell' is one such word. It isn't censored, because it can be used quite legitimately, without being offensive or cursing. However, it can also be legitmately modded if used in an offensive manner.

Really, this poll should have an additional 'If used in a certain context' option.

As for words which are censored - you'll know when you use one, because it will be filtered out of your posts.

Re: Is the word "hell" considered a curse word? READ THEN VOTE!

your missing the point, start making excuses to accept smaller swears, and before you know it other swears become acceptable, much like a-- or s---. There shouldnt be a reason to make it acceptable by any standard. Your still subjecting a child to view the word(s).

Re: Is the word "hell" considered a curse word? READ THEN VOTE!

Actually, I haven't missed your point - but you appear to have missed mine, which is there are many, many words in the English language which are only offensive depending on the context in which they are used. To even attempt to try and filter (or even mod 100%) all of these words would be futile.

Hell, is one such word where it is offensive/cursing only in certain contexts, which is why it is not banned or filtered, BUT that is not to say it won't be modded if used in an offensive/cursing context.

'Hell' is not a 'smaller swear' - as you put it. The word itself is not offensive.

Masking, is purposely inserting *s to circumvent the filter - which is something different.

Re: Is the word "hell" considered a curse word? READ THEN VOTE!

If this is true your saying it acceptable to use ANY swear, weather it be mild or not.

And if this is true why does television and other forms of entatinment use rating methods and adult content advisory warnings to avoid the potential for children to be subjected to these words? Why would it be difficult to impliment the same standards? What would be difficult about making this a standar in the forums?

According to your standards your making it a improper environment for childern to be here if you accept swears according to context. This is why entertainment doesnt have exceptions, they rate the content according to it context. So what age group does the forums belong to?

Before you make accusations - please clarify what you are saying - first I would like you to clarify why 'Hell' is offensive, or a 'minor swear' - as you put it. It is a mythical (or real - depending on your viewpoint) place, and as such it is a word that is used on daytime television, fiction (including children's), and by the church. You cannot say that 'Hell' is offensive to the church, as to deny it potentially gives religion less meaning.

You could also equally say, by your standards, that 'Heaven' or 'God' are offensive words. There are many people out there (myself included) who are atheists - and do not believe in the existence of a supreme being, and some of these people may (and I know some who do) find the idea of such a being, and such a place as 'Heaven', offensive.

And how, exactly, have I said it's okay to use any swearing? I don't believe I did - but I do believe I said that if used in an offensive context, certain words can be modded.

Re: Is the word "hell" considered a curse word? READ THEN VOTE!

i m not spaming,
As part of the "role play" which is popular nowadays, and IS part of this game I am the son of The Great Evil Chaotic One that guides Us All...
by that logic, my home is hell.
folowing up... you considering my home a curse word, can be found ofencive to me.

But you are right, thats not the topic, the topic is:
Should we all be limited because of the "retardedness" of a few,
Or should we be given freedom of speach and action, whiles sanctioning those who cross the line of taste.

Personaly i think the solution would be simple, and introduction of a simple iq test be4 you register in the begining and if rated under 75 a ban on the ip.
Would have removed the idiots from the game and thus have a dual effect...
1. ppl who are generaly tarded and because of whom we need all this rules wouldnt have existed... and there would be less "abusive" talk here
2. "Normal" ppl who are generaly polite and all, wouldnt be driven nuts by those same idiots and thus wouldnt have posted distaestfull posts due to their "temporarily infused insanity"

ofcourse we would have a problem that 30-40% of the game wouuldnt be able to play it anymore.. so such a thing isnt implemented.

And while you may have noticed that i myself have used a few words that might be considered "ofencive" you can also see the context in which they were used isnt intended to be ofencive.
same way a stone cant call insult faul for calling him a stone.

EDIT
@[wolfe/orion i still cant figure out who pulled the religion card on us :)].... dont even try to pull a religion connection card to it...
Last time i checked we mostly all have varius god titles next to our names, also last time i cheked theres something in bible about not worshiping other gods... i belive its ranked in the top 10..

Ok first I would like to apologize if my message was construed as a accusation, more then a statement.

Maybe I misunderstood you here, but I assumed you meant that if used in the correct context ANY swear could be said.

As I mentioned earlier there are many parents that do not wish for there children to be subjected to this word or other words that are categorized as swearwords.

Here is another article Before and After Content Ratings

Please understand that I mean no offence of any kind to anyone in the community, my efforts are to only help make it a better and safe place for the intentions which I read about in the rules.

b. Profanity
The use of profanity on the SGW forums is prohibited at all times. This means swearing, cursing and vulgarity. This includes the use of masking. SGW is a family orientated game and as such the language used must be suitable for children.
