Re: ombudsman voting - fair or not

Mordack wrote:The system isn't completely fair, admittedly, but can you think of a better alternative? If so, then please submit it for consideration.

As inefficient as certain aspects of this system are, I still think it's preferable to having the vote compromised by forum multi-accounts.

I can. Ingame voting, allows each player who has an account to vote for either... limitations could be like 6 months old acc minimum :P

theres a way :)

Re: ombudsman voting - fair or not

I suggested in the past that users be given the option to 'link' their forum accounts to their in-game accounts; an idea which I stole from one of the short-lived SGW copycat MMORPGS. This was over a year ago.. so it might be an idea to resubmit it for consideration.

The suggestion that Smooshable personally check out everybody who applies is absurd. It is too time consuming. And even if people volunteered to assist him, which I'm sure they would, it's still a ridiculously inefficient way of doing things.

Re: ombudsman voting - fair or not

Get over it. You seem to fail to understand that if we would indeed have to check every game account to a forum account, we'd need hours and hours.
Some of us have lives, you know. It's not like anyone actually gets paid to do their jobs here.

If you do not have time for this, then why dont you quit being a mod and let someone else with more time take your place.

Mordack wrote that game account should be connected to forum. That is a very good idea.

I cant wait to see a new ombudsman and how will he do his work. Looks like you have already choose who will win.

Looks like Pianomutt got most of the votes. There was written in one of the topics that he has 2 forum accounts. That is really good for ombudsman.

You're brilliant, sir! :D Absolutely brilliant. I think we should award the next Nobel Prize to you for this brilliant retort.

Guardianx wrote:Mordack wrote that game account should be connected to forum. That is a very good idea.

Of course it's a very good idea. Unfortunately for you and all others who would love to see this happen, the forums are not connected to the game.
I don't know if that is going to change, ever, but at the moment, there is NO connection between ingame and forum. The only minor connection one might find is that the owner of the game is also site admin on this forum, and that sometimes, but never under obligation thereto, Jason posts about updates made to the game.
If you were to act under the premise that game and forum are separate, you'll see many more things make sense, rather than having to whine about how things are 'wrong'. Of course they are. In a universe where wheels are rectangular, a bike with circular wheels is 'wrong'. That's a logical consequence of a common misconception.

But seriously.. if you cannot understand that going to check on all the ingame accounts and forum accounts, and check which are connected to which, you'd better hire someone, pay that person, lock them in a cubicle for 7 days and after 7 times 24 hours see if he's gotten halfway through.
Surely you realise that to ADD this link at this point would either require the creation of a number of new forum accounts equal to the current number of game accounts (so as to retroactively give everyone a linked account); OR the complete check of ALL current forum accounts (9660) versus an ingame account they claim to be theirs.
We both agree that the first option is absurd and idiotic. The second is absurd, but.. just to humour you, because yes, I like going along with crazy ideas:
"Check on an ingame account for a link to a forum account, and how to do it."
1. Create a thread for Forum Users to post in which ingame account they claim is theirs.
2. Establish the Forum User is not a multi on the forums.
3. If the Forum User is a multi, find out which multies claim which accounts, if none are claimed, remove multies (ha! added benefit.)
4. Check ingame for the claimed account; send message to ingame account if in existence. Ask a very specific question; one that cannot by chance be answered correctly by any user; specific question PER user.
5. Await ingame response to message. Forum replies do not count; one has to PROVE they use that account. The response has to be accurate to the letter, or will be considered failed.
6. If ingame response is received, mark account as "matching ingame account ########" and move on to the next account.
7. Repeat for ALL forum accounts.
To suggest any one of us would do that is insane, buddy.
Where's your sense of realism? Again, get over it already.

Why doesn't he just bloody pick 1, apparently its the best way to become a supermod around here anyway, become A/M do nothing, side with mods everytime, pretend to be important, then just decide you will become a supermod.

A/M?

How about you pull that stick outta yer ass and leave my mods alone.

What are you saying? There's nothing wrong with having 2 accounts, I have atleast 10. You gotta problem with that, then you should blow it out your ass and be gone.

I've brought that up to Jason, and he said many times he will not do it due to the lack of work. I will bring the idea of ingame voting to him on wednesday, though.

Re: ombudsman voting - fair or not

I'm sorry guys, I haven't had net access for nearly 3 days - very bad timing.

I will post a more detailed version of how the voting works, I assumed nearly everyone would know how preferential voting works. I'll edit the voting thread to explain it shortly.

The 150 posts and 6 months is unfortunate however neccessary to stop people cheating the system.

Posted here.

I flat out told everyone my multies, and I NEVER requested access with them. It comes down to honesty, and respect.

BTW, he can check ip's you know...so multies can be watched.

Re: ombudsman voting - fair or not

It isn't a perfect system, I have to admit some may actually get through, but every step has been taken to minimise it.

Re: ombudsman voting - fair or not

yes i think it's fair..

i am quite sure none of you top dogs know me but i got access in less then a day when requesting it
so that proves that access is not only granted to the inner friend circle

what do you mean only those with friends will get voted...
well yeh but now it differentiates that only those with friends that have been on the forum for some time get a lot of votes..
cant expect an ombudsman to be choosen from new acounts which know little of the evolution the SGW forum has gone trough.
