Hacking is unauthorized use of computer and network resources. (The term "hacker" originally meant a very gifted programmer. In recent years though, with easier access to multiple systems, it now has negative implications.)

So, if I stole your password from a master list notebook and used it to gain access to your account, that would be hacking because it is unauthorized use of computer and network resources.

If I managed to steal your ATM pin by spying and use it, it is hacking because it's unauthorized use of computer and network resources.

Again, any activity related to theft, alteration and destruction of electronic information is called hacking.

Re: Unauthorised Access to ingame accounts

Lol @ the fiddling of semantics.

Bottom line: someone gained an advantage at someone elses expense by employing immoral and arguably illegal means. He also broke a couple of game rules allong the way (logging into some1 elses account etc.).
Why the administration would do the hard part of tracking the resources to where they ended up and not make that final step to enforce even the game rules, if they`re not bothered by the very moral implications, is a wee bit curious to me. Not so much not restoring stuff, but not striving to sanction such actions is beyond me. What kind of effect will this message that "everything goes as long as it is not a direct loophole in kingdomes games ltd code" have long term heh?

Up to now such "breaches" were limited to SGW related forum accounts to gain an advantage in a tactical sense, and it developed into quite an art. You`re now giving free rain for the prectice to engulf ingame accounts aswell. Hopy you know just what you`re doing.

I understand its kinda akward since every1 is allways pleading innocence, but hey, if you got the stuff tracked to an account and the recipient did not find it "unusual" that 85mil were dropped into his lap he is most likely the one that had his hand in the cookie jar lol.

Re: Unauthorised Access to ingame accounts

A lot of people spend money on this game, whether through the supporter, ingame market, or black market on this forum. I dont know the number of uu marshall lost, but since brdavs threw out 85mil in his cookie jar example, I'll use that.

85mil uu at $4/mil is $340 and the 9tril at $7/tril is $63. so $403 just disappears and admin's stance is to do nothing...

thats a low esitimate as well, really the value can be anything if you can find someone to pay what your looking for, that is a different discussion though.

I would hope that admin would at least assist dan or others that have been victums in retriving enough information to help conduct a through ivestigation. The point I am making is that dan is a victim of cyber theft and it is a serious thing we are talking about here. There are laws set in place, that would help someone in this case recover his property and pursue legal action upon perpetraitors. Even the administration can take legal action, but its getting shurgged off? I even found a acrticle from UK that stated 'Hacking is an act of Terrorism.' printed in the year of 2000, it couldnt possibly be less then 100% accurate. If this is the case, that the admin team refuses to uphold diginity for its members, and will just shrug away an 'act of terrorism', I am very appualed by this attitude from the administration of stargatewars.com and am very upset that you would not see the damage this will do to your game.

Re: Unauthorised Access to ingame accounts

I was just using the lowest prices I saw in the currency trade section ;) lol

clarkey, even if you dont want to call it being "hacked", it is at least identity theft which in this case was used to remove goods from an account. Most companies deal with identity theft in a positive way towards the customer. Yes, I know that this is a free game, but obviously this game couldn't run if not enough people played it. and brdavs brought up an extremely important point that if the admin's policy is to do nothing, then it will eventually become a tactic in war, espionage, etc. What will happen to the game if such a tactic is used in every war and nothing is done to the offenders?? Game over.

But none of us know whether the game or the users PC's were compromised. Even if the users run virus and spyware checks it doesn't mean nothing is there if it doesn't detect it.

I can understand both your views and admins views on this topic. That's why it is hard to choose one over the other.
