Actually, every member of the Catholic clergy can be traced, by the laying of hands, directly back to Christ himself. Before the 4th century, the Church operated throughout the Roman Empire as an underground organisation, because Christianity would get your ass killed in those days.
I read about the first 3 or 4 frames of that rubbish, and I have 2 problems. The Vatican was not always a sovereign power. Catholics do not pledge an allegiance to the Vatican. On the contrary, the Church teaches us to honour and obey the just laws of our our nations. This silly cartoon implies that Catholics are all citizens of the Vatican, and that our national allegiances are divided. Not true. It's not like the Pope will declare war on my country, and test my loyalties. We are taught that His Holiness is infallible, but only in matters of faith and doctrine. He commands and leads a faith first, his position as head of state of the Vatican is a token position.
Secondly, I hate it when non-Catholics use the Bible to try to bring Catholics down. The Old Testament is a historical account of the faith of man. History will always have its inconsistencies, you must bear with what you read. The New Testament was written by men who either were or would later become Catholic Bishops (obviously under a different name, but I don't speak Hebrew or Aramaic). The Bible as we know it was compiled by the Catholic Church, from the writings that the Church considered to be most inspired by the Holy Spirit. Using it, and it alone, to govern Christianity is a concept we call Sola Scriptura (Bible Alone). We were taught that if every profound word and act of Christ were placed in the Bible, it would be too long for any man to read. There are things that the Church does, simply because they were a practice handed down to the Apostles, that were simply not written in a text included in the Bible.
