mate, lets forget 1000 or even 800 tonne stones, if you was quarrying a stone of 1 tonne, would have started quarrying even a 1 tonne stone if you had no way of moving it, even if it was only to move it a few 100 yards? or would you have sorted out the logistics before hand?
there's no way to be sure why the stone was left 3/4's cut, could be anything, some say the stone cracked, others say different reasons, again 1 things for sure, if our ancestors could cut such a rock with such accuracy then cutting stones then figuring out how to move them would be to them stupid.

the stones are so perfectly cut that you cant slip a sheet of paper between them, and no mortar was used, these stones have reportedly withstood earthquakes due to their interconnecting shapes.
