It was aiming for part-realism from the beginning(most of stuff can be explained scientific, heck, even shielding isn't unreal thing). Never liked any show that tried to play the future of humanity(i.e 500/1000 years after our era) - simply it is just impossible to know how will humanity evolve(if at all) and all of it seems too much of fiction than science.
BSG being in lines with Star-trek in the very bottom.

Battlestar Galactica is not on the same line as Star Trek. Star Trek dealt with the future of our race, the humans of Earth. BSG is about a different set of humans, who lived on seperate worlds, and who formed their own distinct civilisation. BSG is, in my opinion, what sci-fi is all about. Its about people dealing with situations that have a futuristic twist.

Rokas wrote:But again, it's only my taste. The best TV show ever written for me is Prison Break... SG goes far into the list after shows like "Firends" or "Married with children"(the El Bundy stuff) and so on.

You what? You can't rate differently themed shows against each other. You can't rate a comedy against a sci-fi. Married with Children was a brilliant show, but i would never rate it against Stargate or Battlestar Galactica. I would rate them both against Prison Break as they are similar.

BSG is probably one of the ballsiest shows on the box at the moment. How many others deal with current events, such as terrorism, suicide bombings. It is even bold enough to look at terrorism from the other side.

battle Star galactica takes place during current times... they are just far more advanced becuase unlike Earth the 12 planets formed a single government and needed ships to travel. Earth was a lone outpost incase humanity fell.

There's always been a question that i think needs answering. Humans lived on Kobol, but the thirteen tribe went their separate ways, which means they had ships, which means they were reasonably advanced. Anyway, the question: What happened to the ships, and the the technology and knowledge used to build them?

well supposedly in the old series the 13th new about the he silver wave (cylons) that would claim their brothers so maybe they got rid of technology to prevent it from happeneing to them.

hmm, thats a poser... the earth tribe is meant to have departed kobol much like the other twelve tribes? that really doesnt make sense... is it not set in the future and the kobol humans were from earth initially and planted on kobol and then the 12 tribes split later on? and earth was lost...

I see some of you have never watched the show before and don't really understand the basic premise.

Battlestar Galactica is not set in the modern day era and it is not set in the future. Hell it isn't set in any known time period because we don't know the technological stage that Earth is in. For all we know if and when the fleet finds Earth it won't be to some advanced society that has the capability to swat the Cylons away like flies. They may find Earth in 2006 with all the technologies that we currently have or perhaps even during the days of Ancient Greece, the Crusades or any other period in Earth's history for that matter.

The scriptures state that a long time ago the 13 tribes of man left Kobol in search of a new home, for the Gods and mankind had a falling out. Twelve of those tribes went in search of a new home, a system with twelve habitable planets that they settled on. The 13th tribe felt the need to travel in the opposite direction and they eventually settled on the planet they called Earth. Nothing more is known about Earth.

Thousands of years later mankind created the Cylon, robots with intilligence to do the tasks humanity didn't want to perform: chores, construction, and even war. Eventually the Cylons rebelled and a great war ensued and ended in a ceasefire, that was 42 years ago. Two years ago the Cylons decided to launch a surprise attack on Colonial defenses and nearly wiped out the human race save for some 50,000 survivors under the protection of the sole remaining battlestar. The fleet went in search of Earth and continue to follow the trail the 13th tribe left.

Battlestar Galactica isn't your traditional Sci-Fi show. It is not Star Trek. It is not Stargate. It is not Firefly. It is not Babylon 5 or Farscape. It is a human drama set in space, its a reflection of a small group of people who find themselves in extrodinary circumstances and how they cope with their new life. The writes of Galactica are some of the best writers I've ever seen as they provide a human side that is rarely seen on TV these days. Every character has their flaws and their good traits and every character can be either loved or loved to be hated.

There are no large space battles save one or two instances and even then I wouldn't call them large. It doesn't fit in the univerise with only one ship that is now severely damaged and in need of a major overhaul. The technology the Colonials possess is on par with ours save for the obvious spaceflight and FTL capabilities. I for one am glad there are no lasers or aliens and even sound in space is very much reduced. Its as realistic of a show set in space as can be.

This is the best show on television, far better than Stargate or Star Trek or any other show save possibly Babylon 5 which comes in second. The writing, acting, special effects are all amazing.

With that said I will refrain from posting about tonight's season 3 finale out of respect for any who havn't seen it yet on the west coast or abroad.

oh yea, that explains why its not coming back for so long...

and starbuck could well be the last cylon, her ship exploded and then she comes back... the cylons could fashion a viper considering chief tyrol built that one and hes a cylon...
